During hurricane Irene.

Warning. This is very graphic and painful to watch, not only because is a quilt shop, but because is someone's business. Scroll down to find the video. Is unbelievable.

So sad. A too familiar site for us down here in the South.

This is heartbreaking to watch. But wasn't she lucky she was away with her art quilts at the time.

this actually is in Shelburne Falls, MA, not Vermont. It's only about 30 minutes from where I live and I've been past that building so many times. One of my coworkers lives there and had to evacuate her house with only a few minutes notice.

Sorry, my mistake. I am so familiar to see Shelburne and immediately type Vermont. Either way is very sad.

Such a tragic loss. A joy, though, to hear that her Grandmother's quilts were spared. I can not imagine the heartbreak of seeing much of your life's work washed away and destroyed.

I would like to make a slightly off topic commment, though. I am growing weary of reporters use of the phrase, "...not your grandmother's quilter" or as this reporter wroter, "...not the typical blocky Americana-style...". True as it may be, I would like to see some more original descriptions of this art. Frankly, I aspire to be a quilter on par with some of the "grandmothers".
