we have a KitchenAide and i love it. It has three racks with the top rack being for knives etc to keep them in one place. It cleans really well, the buttons are on the top of the door and it is quiet. I have had it for 6 years and i wouldn't give it up.

I have a GE and would not buy one again. Avoid them like the plague.

We had a friend who had one he said was belt driven - you use the belt when she doesn't do the dishes...

I thought my friend was going to stroke out when she saw me running the dishwasher with only one rack half full of dirty dishes. I said well you could have hand washed them if you wanted to, not me. LOL

Yes I do. Once in the morning and once after dinner. I dislike emptying the dishwasher of a lot of dishes. I prefer small loads. It's how I do my laundry too, small loads, twice a day. One for coloreds, one for whites. May just have a few items in each load. I can't stand a pile of needs to be cleaned things. Get it done and have things clean and ready to use.

We replaced our Whirlpool with a Kenmore from Sears. So far it has been very good, but we didn't buy a cheap one. We checked all the dishwashers at the Sears store and paid particular attention to the decibel level listed for each washer. The lower level, the quieter the dishwasher, which also usually means extra insulation, more metal and less plastic. So, I would think of your price range and how quiet you want it to be.
