I found this wonderful little thrift shop in Sikeston, MO last week. It's called "Nifty Thrifty". I found several pieces of material for $1.00 each and a bunch of books for 50 cents each - QUILTING books! I was in heaven! I was looking through and trying to decide which ones to get, since I knew I couldn't afford all of them... and then thought, maybe they'd make me a deal. I counted the mags to see how many we were talking about - approximately 126. Hmmm....I went to the register and asked (what could it hurt?) and they said "No, they couldn't make any deals". Oh, well. I went back and scoured through to find the ones that would be coming home with me and after much deliberation narrowed it down to about a dozen. I took my fabric and books to the register and she added me up. $10.00. And then, she asked "Would I would be interested in taking the rest of the books for $20.00?" Would I??? You bet I would! So I collected the rest of the quilting books and she found a box to put them in, and we were both really happy. She said the books come in quite regularly and they would have more by next week, so it was okay to deplete their stock. I won't be shopping too often because of the distance (about an hour away) but I know I'll check everytime I'm in town and they're open. Prices were great and they had a lot of stuff to peruse. And the deal for the magazines - all told I spent around $26 for a total of 130 mags (found a few hidden ones) which equals out to 20 cents each. Lovely, just lovely. :) I only had repeats on 12 of the Quilting Newsletter Magazines and only duplicated on 2 of those from my library. I also duplicated on a McCall's Quilting that I had. That's okay though, it gives me another pattern page. The breakdown on mags was 103 Quilting Newsletter Magazines from 1984 up through 2007, and an assortment of other mags that totaled 27 copies, plus a couple of leaflets. I love the older ones that show how to do quilting "old style" with templates and such. It gives you a better understanding I think of what quilting is all about. Of course, sometimes you can update them and do rotary cutting from the directions, too. And very few of these are the older "newsprint" type pages, most are glossy full color mags. There are some beautiful patterns in these books, I couldn't be happier!

And the fabric you ask? One piece is 5 yds (and it's 56 inches wide) another was 2 1/4 yds and the other was 3 1/2 yds. They wanted $1.00 for the larger pieces and 50 cents for the smaller ones. Of course I chose the largest I could find (always building my stash). Heehee.... How do I find these deals???? Doing the happy dance...... lol

    Here's pics of my haul....
