I just had to step outside in the crunchy snow to see if I could see where the fire trucks were stopping - sounded too close. I could see the white smoke and reflection of flames on it from our drive - looks like it's in the subdivision across the main road right here. So then I worry - hope the people are ok, hope their pets are ok, hope it's only the garage or a tiny part of their house.... Seemed like trucks were coming from every direction. And it will drive me nuts until we drive by tomorrow to make sure. Am I bad? It's because I care, right?

I've never chased them, but when I hear an emergency siren, I usually pause and pray. It could be me or mine.

I have been known to do the same thing. I worry for the family but I always want to know what happened.

I don't chase them, but I do want to see/know what's going on. I think it's normal human nature. Then if we can help the victims, so much the better. Hopefully everyone, everything is okay.

I think maybe because it's my biggest fear - that it will happen to us. I really like to know what happened as well - so I can be more aware of it NOT happening here.

My SIL is a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. My DD calls me sometimes and asks me to pray for a family in a particular situation that Ben gets called out on. I also pray for the firemen that respond not only for their physical safety but also for the trama they go through with all the sadness and sorrow they see and deal with. They have a really tough job and they are only volunteer!

And yes I always want to know the outcome but I don't always get to. DD is not allowed to tell me names and such til it goes public so often I don't have much info to follow up on. Some things Ben is not allowed to tell.

If it is close by I will go and look. I was raised to help your neighbors and I hope if it is ever my family or friends someone would offer help too :D:D:D

My Dh is a retired Captain from the fire dept. We have a scanner and listen to all the calls. He had been known here in our little subdivision and if something happened close they would call him instead of 911!!!! He had one of the houses here put out with a garden hose before the volunteer fire dpet got here. lol.. He also had the second floor of a house fall on him once... I think it is because you care and hope that everyone is ok.

There's not much else to do here. Yes, I always pray that it's nothing serious--that no one is hurt, on my way out the door. We have an excellent volunteer department here, one of the best around. Our men and women are well trained, well organized and we have several that are certified first responders, EMTs and even one RN. We have men that are trained to be commanders at a fire scene and will step in if the chief isn't available. But yeah, because I know almost everyone in town and am related to quite a few of them, I always want to know where they go but never get close enough to get in the way.
