I have a friend who is housebound and is an avid collector of thimbles. At the moment she has over 4000 and is aiming to collect up to 5000. Every wall in her house has thimbles all in beautiful display cases and shelves. She could tell you where they come from and who bought them to her. Lots are series from different nursery rhymes etc.

I do have some from various states and family. One is sterling silver that was my husbands grandmother's estate along with a pair of scissors. The scissor man asks every time if he could buy the scissors!. I display the thimbles on a small shelf in my sewing room. Use the scissors and silver thimble! Perfect fit.

Funnily enough, I don't really collect them but I have tons. I have such difficulty keeping one on my finger, that people buy all sorts for my to 'try'. The best ones are the Japanese ones that were given to me by a friend's sister who lives in Tokyo. They are like rings and are great.

I collect thimbles and everyone knows it. So many of my friends, kids friends and even persons I don't know often pick up a thimble from where they have traveled. Our dear friend travels abroad a lot and I now have thimbles from Korea, Poland & Egypt. My favorite is from England and is the patten of Queen Victoria's china. I had made this young lady a quilt and she gave me that beautiful thimble. :)

I have quite a few too, mostly just got them at garage sales. They are so pretty!

I use to collect them. I have stopped but I do have a display case full of them. When friends went on vacation they made sure to bring me one back.
