Doesn't anyone use proofreaders anymore?

The word "brought" is easily misused. I say "I brought my sewing machine to the shop" when I am speaking to someone in the shop. I would say "I took my machine..." when I am not at the shop, but telling about the experience. Took is always past tense, but brought can be either past or present tense, depending on to whom you are speaking. This is getting way too painful. Another of my pet peeves: to, too, two.

Our local newspaper gave a presentation to encourage businesses to advertise with them. The large number of errors in grammar, usage, and spelling were shocking. The publisher is an acquaintance, so I quietly pointed out to him the importance of proofreading the copy for these presentations, but it was obvious he didn't see any problems. I'm afraid our language is so dumbed down, partly from the texting "vocabulary," that I doubt if we can recover. We all make mistakes and need some grace, but I fear our kids are essentially illiterate.

and I figured out how to shut off the auto correct on my ipad, it was just too annoying. Sometimes when I type I make a mistake and I'm okay with that; but for the machine to be telling me what I must be trying to say was a little too much.

Miss stakes eye kin knot sea
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh
