I'm with Mary..I'm not sure what a drainage bag is for a cancer patient. But regardless they are very pretty and cheerful and I'm sure they will be much appreciated. I lost my mother to breast cancer and the kindness you are doing is wonderful!!

A bag for holding the drainage pouch many patients have for a few weeks after surgery.

They're also used for draining after breast removal. Ask me how I know. That's very thoughtful, onemoe.

Hello, I'm from Germany and we too sew such bags and give them to patients who need drainage. First we sewed "Heart Pillows" for women who suffered from breast cancer to ease their pain under the arm and gave these to the hospitals where the patients recieve them after surgery. And then we were asked if we could sew such little bags!! Over here there are many groups sewing heart pillows and such little bags and all is given for free to the patients!!

For those who have not experienced a loved one going through the cancer journey which I have now done twice unfortunately. The drainage bags i think they are referring to is when my dad had surgery to put a stent in his bile duct which was blocked they put tubes into the body which are then attached to a plastic bag outside the body. I think the bags they are making are to hold this plastic bag as some of the stuff that comes out is not pretty and also to help when they are walking around etc..

I think this is a wonderful idea. Like blahel, I have also been through this twice... lost both my parents to cancer. These bags would have been very helpful.
