Do you like Inspector Morse Mysteries? They are available on Audible with Kevin Whatley narrating. He was Inspector Lewis.

I am not sure if Louise Penny's books are available for e-readers, but they are delightful stories that take place outside of Montreal

Try the Chronicles of St. Mary's by Jodi Taylor. Historical, time travel and a lot of humor.

Louise Penny books are available in the Kindle store on Amazon. They are wonderful stories.
Also just recently discovered that the Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes is on kindle. Originially published in the seventies and made into a "made for tv mini series" I think. 8 volumes of Kent family from 1700's England to 19 century America with the historical backdrop of the founding of America. The first 3 volumes are available as a set on Amazon for 4.99 now.
Read them back in the 70's as paperbacks, enjoying the first volume again as a kindle book. Plan to re-read the entire series.
