I heard my 14-year-old son get up at 4:30 am and head downstairs. He sometimes walks in his sleep, so I listened carefully. After using the bathroom, I heard him getting out dishes. "Uh, oh!" I thought, and I headed downstairs to herd him back to bed.

When he saw me, he said, "Mom! You're not supposed to be up yet!" He was preparing to surprise me by making me breakfast in bed for my birthday! He said Dad told I usually get up about 5:30, so he set his alarm for an hour earlier. I told him I thought he could get a little more sleep, that I'd wake him when I was ready to get up (which ended up being around 6:00).

He got up and made me scrambled eggs and toast. Breakfast was great, but truly, it was the thought that counts. I don't think I will ever forget this!

Happy Birthday! It is also my DGD's 11th. She was born in Thousand Oaks, CA but now lives in Lafayette, CO.

You live in God's country! We used to live in Sacramento and DH dove for abalone on the reef offshore from the campground just south of Fort Ross. We have been in your area a lot and would love to live there ;-)

What a great boy you have! We hear so many negative things about young people so it's wonderful to read such a great story. Keep up the good parenting work!
