Earthquake center in Mineral VA (outside of Richmond) of a 5.9 EXTREMELY rare in this area. They are cautioning that there will probably be aftershocks due to the size.

This is the largest earthquake in the area since they started keeping records.

EDITED TO ADD - they just said that it will probably be upgraded to a 6.1 or 6.2.

Say prayer for Barb Black and family, owner of Seaside Quilting. It's practically in her back yard.

A few people I know felt it in Downtown Cinti. I have a niece in D.C. Her sister is trying to reach her by phone. She is having a hardtime reaching her.

They are saying on the news that the phone service - especially cell service - in overwhelmed to say the least. It might take some time to get a hold of her.

I am 45 minutes from DC and the TV is reporting that thankfully there is not much real damage or injuries from the quake.

They are saying that there has not been any earthquake of any real size to speak of since the 1700s.

Felt strong earth quake in south eastern Pennsylvania. Every one here very nervous as we have an atomic power plant 3 miles away. Tv, dishes and lights all rattled and swayed. Couldn't believe that it was happening. All major cities including Baltimore, 35 miles away, are evacuating high rise buildings due to fear of aftershocks. Hope everyone is ok.
