Hello!
I am still going to PT and loving it! I have only lost 1/2 pound the last two weeks, but I am going in the right direction.
If you will permit, I will discuss the Lenten season for a few minutes as it pertains to my goals for the next 40 days.

In the traditional Church year, Lent is the season of 40 days (not including Sundays) from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday. Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) is the day before Ash Wednesday. It has been the practice to empty the house of all fats and red meats on Fat Tuesday in preparing of Lent, the time of fasting and penitence. I have decided for this Lenten season to participate in the religious observance of 40 days of no red meats, fats, or sugars that are unnatural. Sundays are feast days and allowed to break the fast, so I won't be wasting the frozen beef, etc. During this time I will use the extra income to feed the poor (also traditional) and use the extra cooking prep time to read, meditate and exercise.

I could not find "Sit and Be Fit" on my tv schedule, but I do have the Walking CD and will use it for walking.

I humbly ask your encourage during my Lenten practices. Just a PM to ask how I'm doing, atta girl, or the like would help me a lot as I would feel accountable for my vows. If anyone wants to join me, pls PM so we can discuss the details.

I'm hoping this will help me rid my body of too much fats and sugar and cholesterol. I recently read more information regarding the Mediterranean diet and the health benefits are enormous. Just from the Physical Therapy and following WW my blood sugar is now a steady 100 each morning and my blood pressure drops 20 points by the end of the workout. I have decreased my insulin by 30 units each day since a month ago! Awesome results for exercise 3 days a week, and limited exercise at that.

More info on the Mediterranean diet:

Great job Purplemem!!!! I am rooting for you!!!!
You can do it!!

I have eliminated almost all sugar from my diet. This weekend I did have one small bite of a cookie and 3 small yogurt covered prezels and a very small spoonful of frozen yogurt, most sugar I have had in a long time. We went to Soup Plantation for lunch. Ate too much but avoided the breads, muffins and except for a tiny spoonful of DH's yogurt, avoided desert. I did put blue cheese dressing on my salad. For dinner all I had was a cup of black beans that I made with a small amount of low fat cheese on top. Oh, and a cup of chicken bullion. I have PT 3 days a week. I asked and my Therapist said that I could go into the deep water for water aerobics class. No running workouts in the pool yet. I am not going tomorrow cause my son is in town for the day and we will spend time with him tomorrow
Got to wear a smaller pair of pants to church today!!!

Glenn has been giving up red meats for Lent ever since I've known him so I've gotten used to it after 17 years. It's not that bad if you get a little creative and I add a couple of vegetarian meals each week. He never told me that Sundays are feast days though...hmmm. He has been a good influence because he seldom eats sweets. He might have a piece of cheescake at a holiday meal but that's it. I used to bake a lot but there's no point if I'm the only one eating the sweets. I really don't even miss them anymore and I even gave up soda or anything artificially sweetened a few years ago. I do have HIGH blood pressure even on meds and high cholesterol managed with meds but I really want to get off all of the meds if I can. I understand part of my issues may be hereditary but being overweight does not help. So I've begun again and hopefully this time will not get stuck and give up.

Mj keep up the good work. Yes even a little exercise helps. I find the weeks where I exercise I feel and lose so much better. I saw my allergy doctor on Friday and he was a mazed at my weight loss. 38 pounds. It is so great when someone notices. Yes I too am going to get the sugars, especially chocolate out of my diet for lent. I find the more I eat the more I seem to need. We rarely eat red meat here since it has become so expensive. I love chicken, could eat it every day. I rarely drink soda any more. I used to drink 5 or 6 diet sodas a day but gave that up too I drink one occasionally for the caffeine. I can't drink coffee.
We bought a new tv this weekend. Our old one died. We switched from cable tv to sattellite last week too and our newest tv is 12 years old. My DH and DS watch a lot of tv. DH picked out a huge 70 inch tv. Now i need to find a cabinet to set it on. I am going today. I was going to spend today fabric shopping. I have a new bargello quilt I want to make. I have been wanting to make one for a long time, just couldn't find the right pattern. I hope the one I bought isn't too difficult.
Healthy eating and exercising to all.
Pat

Good morning, all. I know it's afternoon to you, but I was up most of the night struggling with this Lenten thing so my day has started late. I will PM you, MJ. If anyone is offended with the discussion of what is a Christian practice, please let us know.

I guess Monday is as good a day as any to start becoming more accountable and posting my weight. 145.5, which means I am only down a pound since the first. But at least I didn't gain any being off track yesterday. I just had chicken for breakfast. I have exercise in 33 minutes and I don't like to be running on empty then. Lily and Moira will need to get out, too. My son called last night after I had put on my boots and back brace. At first the furgirls were a very rude about it. The talker was yodeling and the barker was letting him know she didn't appreciate his timing.

BTW, blondeslave, I am off all blood pressure and heart meds which my doctor doesn't know yet. I'm due for my annual visit so that will be interesting. He occasionally has to be reminded that it's my body and I'm the one in charge.

MJ, the nurse who does Sit and Be Fit has a line of CDs and videos. You choose one according to your needs. There is a website. I haven't purchased any because I can't decide on which one and I'm the hyper one who could never do the same one over and over. I need variety.

I'm going to plug another sewing machine from the 50s today - I found the belt right where I put it, but it was out of the bag. I always feel a little trepidation with the first plug in on these older machines.

Cindy, I'm glad you received my FQ. I will mail earlier next month. I'm not surprised at one of the ones who hasn't responded. The others may just be late like I was. You are amazing working 12 hour days so soon after extensive surgery and keeping up with this. Thank you for your work. BTW, I don't look at losing weight as work. It's exciting to me to see that my aging body can still do so if I want it to. Like I used to tell my students about doing well in reading and math, the WANT has to come first.

Have a healthy eating day. Eat light and eat well. I AM losing weight and getting healthier.

Greetings Ladies!!! Yesterday DH and I had a date - first for a long, long time. We (he chopped trees down at a friends ) hauled a load of wood home and stacked it. Then we went to the movie "One for the Money". We have read all of Janet E.'s books and love them so to see actors protraying those parts was really fun. Then we had a gift certificate for Ruby Tuesdays. We are really bad about using gift certificates, so I was glad we took it along. I ordered the Blackened Tilapia with grilled zuccinhi(SP) and creamy mashed cauliflower. The cauliflower was to die for. Will have to find a recipe for it now. Stayed the same on the scale, but almost to my planned weight loss for month. I will now have to rethink things and set a new goal. I need to commit to exercise, but I haven't yet. Looked at Sit and Fit, and even put it in my favorites, but....

So have a great day. The sun is shining beautiful here and you all are loved.

We had our weigh=in yesterday morning -- I am down a pound !!!! I was at a level plateau for over a month and getting discouraged. I won't be at my "wish" weight when we go to San Diego in a week, but 1 is better than none

Congratulations to everyone working so hard

Mim

Hi, I agree with mim - 1# is better than none. I too lost 1# this week. My total loss for Feb so far is 11#. Tomorrow I see my dr and I'm glad to show progress again losing weight instead of staying the same. Being a part of this challenge has really helped me stay on my food program.

Wow, jlw, 11# is a lot in 3 weeks! I'm feeling good about my 5.
I need a snack and I think I hear a banana calling my name.
