It is quite difficult to sew through the nylon rope - that is why cotton is preferred.

Can you wash it? If you made placemats, they would get dirty, at least in my house. So I'm assuming you can wash it?

Good for you, BellaBoo. Now, if I could just find a Walmart that carries the Niagra non-aerosol starch, I would do the same thing. Every one I go into I look, but never find.

I like striped fabric - the swirls are awesome. The closer the stripe, the better. Bright colors
are always nice. I have found that 'black' in the fabric shows up well. I buy fat quarters
and if yardage is available, I buy 1/2 to 1 yd. of fabric depending on how much I like it.

Are you cutting the stripe on the bias or straight to get the swirls? TIA

I buy my cording at Wal-Mart. I will have to check out the Dollar store......

I have made lots of the bowls/baskets. Have also made hot pads and coasters. I get my cotton clothesline at Walmart, it pretty cheap. I have tried the nylon clothesline, but it doesn't hold the shape as well as the cotton.
When Walmart was sold out (I have cleared out the 3 Walmarts near my house several times), I tried Harbor Freight. When I walked in, I asked the young clerk where their clothesline was. He looked at me and said "what's clothesline?" I couldn't believe my ears!
