I am making a changing pad and burp rag to match the diaper bag. The changing pad says to use terry cloth and pul. And the burp rag says terry cloth. I was wondering what anyone here has used. If you have used batting instead of the pul and fabric instead of the terry cloth?

The PUL is that fabric with the plastic coating that is waterproof. I imagine they want you to use that so the mess doesn't go through to wherever the changing pad is used.

I make changing cloths and burp cloths using flannel with batting. The flannel is soft and the batting makes it absorbent. I make them like a rag quilt. Sew a sandwich of flannel, batting, flannel with wrong sides together, 1/2" seam, clip the seam allowance all the way around. On the burp cloths I stitch across the middle to hold things in place. On the changing mats I stitch some lines diagonally to hold things together before I wash them to fringe the edges. I use JoAnn's snuggle flannel when it goes on sale. I can get 2 burp cloths out of 1/2 yard.

I've used PUL for the lining of small bags that can be used to carry wet things or things that might leak. I don't see why you would need to use it on a changing pad. They don't get that wet.

I have used the PUL in changing pads but I use batting in burp cloths and bibs. I have also just used terry cloth on the back of cloth bibs and burp cloths.

For the burp clothes that I have made, I used cloth diapers and flannel. Sometimes I covered the entire diaper with flannel and then cut curves on the sides so they fit a shoulder, if that makes sense. Some I have made with strip of flannel down the middle, same size as the padded area of the diaper. With this method regular cotton fabric works, also, so you could match your diaper bag. The moms seem to like them and sometimes ask for more. I think terry cloth is a little ruff for a baby's skin. Haven't made a changing pad but the PUL sounds like a good idea, although, I probably wouldn't bother with it. A changing pad just need to be pretty sturdy and able to stand up to lots of washing

When making burp cloths, I don't use batting at all. Two layers of flannel seems sufficient for absorbency and is quicker in the laundry. Pul might be nice for changing pads. Have no experience there but like it as the back for bibs--both the drool bibs and feeding ones as they keep shirts dry!
