I ran all our computer's firewall systems and only came up with tracking cookies for passwords, no virus or bugs. Computer is working OK, no brower takeovers, pop up ads, etc. so What to do next? May in Jersey

Sounds like your account was hacked and is being used to send spam. Check with other people you have listed in your email address book. Often times, it will be sent to everyone in your address book.

Notify everyone in your address book that those messages are not from you.

Contact your email service provider and let them know what is happening.

You can try changing your password and see if it stops. Otherwise, you may just need a new account.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. I did change my email password but didn't notify my email provider which is a good idea. In the process of letting contacts know about bogus email. May in Jersey

I had the same problem. Seems to me it's only the people with Hotmail tht have had the problem, but who knows. I went to Gmail and set up a new account.

I like hotmail, or should say I liked it until it's recent changes, hardly any room for my message but plenty of room for ads. Anyway, last year I had a problem with my yahoo email so I created a gmail account. Really don't care for gmail. I can access my account and inbox but for some reason I can't seem to open the messages. Maybe my computer is suffering from heat exhaustion like we all are, LOL! May in Jersey

The main thing I like about Mac - absolutely no spam. Of course, most of the quilt software doesn't work - SO - QUITE A TRADEOFF. Hope to get another computer soon to just use for quilting stuff and not hook it to internet.

Sounds like you were a victim of spoofing. YOU don't have a virus (or trojan or worm), but someone who has you in their address book DOES. The malware will take your name and send emails as though they're coming from you.
