Yesterday I got to wondering about my treadle machine. "Rose" sits in my living room hosting a fish tank. I posted an old picture and Lostin51 gave me some info, Singer 127 with a Memphis Sphinx decal. Without the serial number can't be sure of the age. Being very pleased with that info I said to DH, I wish I could move that tank, I want Rose back in my sewing room. Well, go up this morning and went to feed the fish, noticed that over 2 inches of water was missing and as I moved in my feet got wet!!! The filter had clogged and was draing water out onto Rose and the floor. The top of the cabinet was damaged, but now the whole top layer of vanier has lifted and in some places has soaked in. Will need to be repaired. What a mess! Right now the only one happy with this is the cat, fish are in a bucket on the floor!

OH NO!!!!! How awful!!! I hope you can recover the cabinet and that Rose isn't damaged!

New veneer can be purchased and glued on once the wood underneath is totally dry and has been sanded smooth then cleaned with a product called Tacky Cloth. If you've never done this before you might want to consult someone in your area that has. Get Rose dry asap to prevent rusting.

Rose is as tough as her namesake! the cabinet will have to go to a refinnisher, and I don't kown if the cabinet maker here dose that type of work. Upside is that Rose gets to go to my sewing room and that will make me happy...right after I get the mess cleaned up.

In addition to this, sand it one more time than you are positive you need to do, THEN spray it with water and wait 15 minutes. Then drag an old pair of panty hose over it to check for those little "sharpies" that will, or might spring up. Then sand these down and let dry totally, Tack cloth it again and then you can start the refinishing bit.

Thanks for the info and the kind thoughts. Not sure if I want to tackel the repairs to the cabinet. Were renovating out house and I am sick to death of sanding! LOL
Rose has been oiled and is working fine. Spots cleared in the sewing room, just waiting on DH to come home for lunch so we can move her in.
