My son just gave me a small freezer for my birthday gift so my trips to the grocery store (50 miles round trip) could be less. Thank you, Mark.

Both Glenn and I have 70+ mile per day commutes in completely opposite directions. My only co-worker that even lives remotely close to me works a totally different schedule than I do and our company is not flexible. I wish there was public transportation or someone to commute with to share expenses. The only public transportation available would be 3 hours each way-no thank you. I'd like to see Glenn and the hounds occasionally.

Im out in the country so ALL my trips are done in one trip.. Its going to get worse and yes most will still pay because they have to get to point A to point B to put food on the table and a roof over their heads..

Yes gas prices will continue to rise and so will every product delivered to stores. Over the past couple of years, the profits that many companies have posted were due to increased costs they passed along to their suppliers or directly to consumers. When the price of any product goes up in a store, we often don't go to that store as often- But that store still has to pay its employees and keep the lights on.... Just like your LQS who have had to raise the price of fabric, cost of classes or needed to find creative ways to get us in more often. It can be a domino effect. Let's hope folks prepared for hard times. My grandmother always said to be prepared- a dime in your shoe to call home, extra food on the shelves, car filled up, the Good Book by your bed, and plenty of scraps (she only used scraps for quilting) to keep your hands busy. The older I get, the smarter that woman was.

I also live in the Dallas area. The last time that prices were that high, more folks started taking the light rail trains and/or buses. It will be that way again. I'm going to keep doing what I do.

Funny I made the same comparison that you did. I too had a bag of Doritos on my counter and wondered at what point would I stop buying them. I would have to wonder if $5.00 for a bag is not that far off.
They have been predicting the highest gas prices on record will be not that far off, and in just a few months my area will hit the $5.00 mark. My consumption is small since I office from my home , and only use my vehicle about once a week for grocery shopping and errands. I am thinking about letting my close neighbors know when I am going so its more than just me going to the grocery store.
I am so concerned that this bit of hope we have seen that the economy is on the mend may all vanish.
On another note there have been some great on line fabric sales with free or greatly reduced shipping, so I am doing some stocking up.... like I needed an excuse.

Thankfully DH only works about 10 mins from our house and wow I can't imagine paying those prices, today here our gas prices are $1.22 a litre don't know how that translates to gallons. I paid almost $3 for a head of lettuce yesterday, our milk prices has gone through the roof here, my mom said where she is they pay $6 for milk and it's about $4 here. Our local food cupboard is being overloaded with requests for staple items. I do an online search every week of every grocery store in the city and plan our shopping based on that. Since we are so close to the US border we also check out the Price Chopper ads down there and go maybe once a month to just buy groceries it doesn't cost us anything in duty.

I am a prepper. I don't think for doomsday. I won't need preps if that day comes. I do it to not pay a big price later on so I will have money to pay for other needed things. Like gas!
