Red face Great news!

One of my favorite causes is Little Dresses for Africa. This organization collects homemade dresses and britches for orphaned boys and girls in third world countries.

Due to changes in my health and ability to work, it has gotten more and more challenging to keep up with my fabric supply. I sew for them a lot!

I checked our local Goodwill, and lo and behold, there was some really good cotton print fabric for a decent price. I bought it, and I am on my way to blowing through it. I talked to a lady who worked there about what I was doing in case she had more in the back. She didn't but she told me that on the first Saturday of each month, they mark down their merchandise to half off.

I sure went back on that day, and lo and behold, there was some of the fabric that I needed. I also managed to find a plus size denim jumper and a pretty cotton skirt with lots of fabric and some buttons that I can harvest! These were half price too!

I saw one last big piece, but I could not get to it so I asked a lady near me if she would get it for me. She did, and she saw how excited I was over this find! She got curious, and asked me what I was going to do with the fabric. I told her, and she was very touched.

She told me that she is an executive for Goodwill. She wants to inview me, and publish my story for the corporation. She said that the company likes to publish stories about good deeds that come out of their corporation! What a great way to get more exposure for the Little Dresses project!

Needless to say, I am excited about it, and I am so happy that people sometimes donate their stashes. It allows people who cannot afford fabric store prices to still be able to sew! In my case, the fabric will clothe kids who do not know anythin but rags to wear, and at times, nothing at all. Thanks to all of you who donate to Goodwill.

Great story!
... I wonder if you could make connections so that when new fabric arrives, they set it aside and give you a call? It wouldn't hurt to ask ... especially when they want to do a feature article about your work!

Wow, great story. I have four little dresses for Africa almost ready to go into the mail. Around my area, we have stores called Job Lot, and they often have sales on pillowcases that are really inexpensive. I pick up a couple packages when I can, and make the pillowcase dresses which are so simple. If anyone wants to make them, just go over to Nancy Zieman's website for the directions.
