I've had my meal at a Chinese restaurant paid for twice. I was sitting in the same spot. I call it my lucky chair now. One was a woman and the other a couple from North Carolina. This was during the evacuation of North Carolina and I thought I should be paying for that couple. I sure hope I don't look that old, but I think I am starting to look my age.

I live in Florida and we have a department store called Bealls (pronounced Bells). They don't have a "senior discount". Instead they have a "50 and Fabulous" discount. It just sounds so much better to tell the cashier that you're fabulous.

true, and I will take a discount any day! Remember, when we were teens//THIRTY looked old! The kids (profiling) really have no idea what "senior" looks like. About ten years ahead of me seems "old" at times! LOL! or we all know people who ACT old at any age..sheesh....I have learned to appreciate being called "ma'am". Own it!

I think the military person deserves to do with his or hers military discount as they wish. I have 2 vet kids and they bless me a lot.

if you work at a business that offers an employee discount. ... it is NOT transferable (could be grounds for job termination) . but since you benefit from their discount...whatever. Giving a STRANGER the military discount..uh no. not appropriate ever.

Last year I was purchasing a bottle of cough medicine and went to pay and couldn't find my debit card. There was a young lady with a toddler in front of me and I told her to go ahead of me while I looked for my card. She asked if that was the only thing I was purchasing and I told her it was but the line was the self serve line and I couldn't use cash and didn't know what happened to my debit card. She paid for the cough medicine, I tried giving her the cash for it and she refused. I was so surprised, also I have been noticing more people holding open doors for me. I don't mind being called a senior as I am and am proud of it. I have a friend who is eighty and will not admit to being a senior and gets upset with me when I ask about senior discounts.

I had taken my ex-husband to the VA hospital in Asheville and before going home we stopped to eat. When we went to pay the waiter told us the couple in the booth next to ours had paid for our meal. I guess they may have heard us talking or maybe it was the AF cap my ex had on. That's the first time I've ever had that happen and it was very appreciated. We thanked the couple as they were leaving.

Yes these things have been happening more for me too! I don't feel that old, but I must look it! I like to think people are just being nice....

I have just turned 69 and in addition I am having a reverse shoulder replacement in December. I had a doctor tell me that I needed to humble myself and ask for help when I needed it. It is hard for me to do as I have always tried to be the person to help others. But I am learning to ask for help now and have been so blessed that every time I have asked someone, they have been delighted to help. I think that most people want to help but are timid about doing so. When given the opportunity, they jump right in and help.
