Hi everyone,

I am looking for a pattern. It is a women's box pleated split skirt.
There is a web sight called Modest Handmaiden. There is a box pleated split skirt pattern. It is $14.00.
I don't want to pay that amount.
Does anyone know of a pattern like that? I have split skirt patterns but don't know how to make the box pleat in a split skirt.

I should imagine you make the box pleats as you would any time on the waist. The waist is made up of 2 pieces. Find the centre and decide if you want the top of pleat there of th,e fold. I would suggest the fold . Now measure the distance from one side to the other and work ou.t how many, pleats. And size of each. If you do a 4 inch top of pleat each pleaT will contain 12 inches of fabric.Half of waist is 16" you can do 4 pleats across front of band. So will need aiece of skirt fabric 48".

I went to Modest Handmaiden and the pattern is $10, pdf file download only. The pattern looks simple enough without needing the download.I am intimidated enough by pleats that I would pay the money for the pattern. Good luck.

....ooh, yuck, I remember ironing pleats back into skirts after wearing them......never again!

Have you checked the patterns sold such as McCall's and Simplicity at JAF?? If you can wait until they have those patterns on sale, sometimes they are as inexpensive as $2.00. I was SHOCKED to see how much those patterns are now a days. Always disliked them because I could NEVER get the tissue pattern refolded correctly so they would fit in the envelope !!

I used to make these without a pattern when I was a teenager. Buy a pants pattern (elastic waist pattern works best) that is your size, when you put the front and back pieces on the fabric, make sure the grain is straight but place them so the crotch part is as close to the selvedge edges as you can, and do not cut the outside leg seam area out. Extend the top edge and hem edge to the fold and cut out. You now have two huge leg pieces. Sew the two crotch seams, then the leg seams. Now, just fold a pleat about three inches from the front and back seams, about one inch deep (outside of pleat should open to the side not center) sew the pleat down for about five inches on both front and back pieces. Make casing for elastic on top, insert elastic. Hem bottom edge. Done. The pleat is not a pressed pleat, it is a modesty pleat so that the pants do not cling to and show off "lady parts" as grandma called them.
