Default Has anyone refinished a formica countertop with Ardex?

It's a featherweight concrete. I am just wondering if you like the results, and also what kind of sealant you would recommend. This is for a small laundry room countertop that needs refinishing.

I have painted Formica with melamine paint in the past, but it was not a countertop that got lots of use, like a laundry room.

The Adrex looks like it is for finishing floors, I am not sure if it would stick to a smooth Formica counter. Also how would you handle the edges?

Please post photos of the finished project.

Until your question, I didn't know you could refinish formica. I think if you use "feather finish" instead of featherweight in your google search, you will find answers. One site is www.ABeautifulMess.com Click on Home, then scroll down to concrete countertop DIY.

Ardex is for floors. it is used to level like you would concrete. You can then put flooring over it. Works wonderful with peal and stick tiles.

I would go to Sherwin Williams and ask lots of questions. They should be able to answer them all.
Good luck.

I believe Rustoleum makes a product to redo formica counter tops. Look on the website for it. It is sold at big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes too.

Yes, it's Ardex Feather Finish not Featherlight and it can be used for both floors and countertops. Here's a link to a blog where she used it for her laundry room countertop:

my style of diy learning for years! i've learned decorative interior plastering, paint color mixing, toilet repairs &, in current live-diy home, i've learned underground irrigation ...plus a whole lot more over the many many years of my diy life ..esp before there were internet forums like this. the folks at the hardware, irrigation, paint or flooring stores are the best source of info & learning i've ever found.
