You must have excellent insurance! I have lower back pain most all the time, especially if I do much bending over or twisting my torso. Several of my friends have had back surgeries and every one told me the cure is worse than the fix. I find that being lazier and having someone else do my housework helps me enough to get by... Would advise you to NOT have it.

I have never had the procedure, but suffer back problems, bulging disk. They wanted me to have surgery but have heard so many didn't fair well after, that I just suffer on. (sort of speak) Can't walk far with out pain. Sometimes we learn to re-adjust our way of living. Just the way my life is. I wish you the best if you have this done. You appear to young to go through life in pain. :( take care.

I am an x-Ray tech and have never had a myelogram but have assisted the radiologist in doing hundreds of these. Most go very smoothly and patients aren't in pain at all. Years ago they used to have to remove the dye they put in by withdrawing it and many times lots of spinal fluid could come out at the same time which resulted in headaches. They use dye now that is absorbed into the system and does not have to be removed so it results in much better outcome for the patient. If I had to have one done I would not hesitate. Hope it will give you some answers!

you might ask if they can get the imaging they need from an MRI with contrast instead as that is much less invasive. a Myelogram is similar to a spinal tap except for location and the facts that they're adding to the fluid and doing imaging studies at the same time. hold very still during test and do not try to do anything but lie perfectly flat for several hours after.

I've had several myelograms and never had any problems....just drink plenty of fluids after to flush the dye out of your system.

Had one years ago - helped pinpoint the source of my unrelrnting back & left leg pain. Subsequent surgery fixed the issue - would not hesitate to do it again. It was not painful, just difficult to remain very still as directed.

I had this done a few months ago.

The test showed all kinds of things going on in my lower spine. Stuff like bone spurs, beginning stages of arthritis and couple of discs starting to wear out.

I had one back about 11 years ago before i had my back surgery,Never will I have one again, my hole didn't close and had to have a blood patch to close mine. My husband had one several years and didn't have any problems with his. I suffered from migraines for months afterward. When I would try to lift my head off the pillow it felt like someone chopping my head with a chopping axe. I wish you the best of luck with yours.

I had two thirty years ago. I had an alergic reaction to the "new " dye with the first...the results was, I couldn't stand the smell of food...lost 16 pounds in two weeks..(wonder if I could get some of that dye now ) The second went ok, just after the injection, they put me face down on a small "table" and tilted it up for the screening of the dye. The table had a small ledge and it was very painful to my back to stand on the ledge with just the front part of my feet. Having said that, my back pain was sooo severe beforehand , I would not hesitate to do the procedure again if I had disc problems again.

Thank you all for tellingme your experiences with this test. it seems it is a 50/50 response on whether to do it or not. Usually if anything could go wrong with a test or something it would happen to me. :thumbdown: I still have a couple weeks before my aptointment to dwell on this. I think it has changed somewhat in the last couple years as to what kind of dye they use and such. It is a water based dye now and it seems that if you stay still and drink lots that it will actually improve the chances of not getting any side effects. I have done well with all the other floura procedures where they stick the holllow needles in there so I am going to hope I do well with this one. I think it is a chance I am going to have to take to try to find out what the heck is really going on back there.
