I have been sewing on the dining room table forever. My DH gave me the spare bedroom to make a sewing room. I have no tables or anything. Any suggestions??? I just saw the link to sewezi and thought you all might help.

Thanks :)

My sewing room began that way...nothing but fabric and my sewing machine and stand. I began with using boxes as shelves, the floor as the cutting surface.

There are so many ways to create a room...just make sure that you are happy and it fits with your desires. Have fun setting it up and filling it up! It really can happen quite quickly!

I picked up one of those folding conference room tables. It worked great until I got to the point where I wanted to put drawers underneath, but the leg supports got in the way. We were at Home Depot the other day and I saw one that would have worked great - it was sturdy and there were no leg supports in the way. It was about $30 if I remember right.

Look in thrift stores and yard sales and you will eventually find just the table for you. Another thing to look for is old government issue desks. I bought one that is 38in deep and 6ft wide, for 15.00. It is very heavy and sturdy. I use it for FMQ as it gives me plenty of table space but it would also work great as a cutting table and there are several drawers for supply storage.

I purchased book cases (heavy) from Ikea and project cases with handles from Joann's

I have this set from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40116070 I have the desk and a 4x4 cubby unit. It's perfect for sewing--the desk is nice and solid, a good height for cutting, and the cubbies are large. It provides lots of storage without taking up lots of space. It was not fun at all to assemble, but it was worth the hassle. I might buy another (smaller) set of cubbies for my books and knitting stuff.

Oh use the "search" feature, just type in sewing rooms and you will find tons of ideas. Most of all have fun creating your very own space. Congrats.

SparMonkey that is a really cool table! I bought a library station from Craigs List. It used to be in a school that was closing. Its like new, not a scratch or dent & really sturdy! Keep checking Craigs list, there some great deals on there. It took me a little while to find this one, but the wait was worth it.

go to a thrift store find a desk or large table look around and let your imagination run wild u can find things to use that are not meant for quilting
use a shoe caddy to hang behind your door for storage
use a record holder for your rulers, use an insualtion board and some flannel to use as your design board.
have fun keep us updated :-D :-D

Did you figure out what you wanted to do? another simple/cheap idea is saw horses w/ a good sturdy board or a hollow core door.
Keep us posted.
