I am your age and so far there have been some great recommendations. I love Bob Seger (roll me away is probably my fav) and Bruce Springsteen.

This band may be hard to find but well worth it:
Hot House Flowers. The CD is Songs from the Rain. They are Australian. The songs I like best on that CD are Be Good (track 4) you really want to sing to that one, Thing of Beauty (track 7) and Gypsy Fair (track 10)

Another great CD is Laid by James. Love the song Sometimes from that CD. Also Out to Get You and the title track Laid.
For upbeat Van Morrison Brown Eyed Girl, Gloria, Domino.
The band Live: Lightining Crashes, All Over You and Overcome
Alanis Morrisette is good for angry.

Just thought of another. Bruce Springsteen put out an album after 9/11 called The Rising. I worked at ground zero right after it happened. It came out a year or so later.
It really helped me through some of my down times that I experienced over the couple of years after. The Rising itself is a wonderful song.

A few more from that era are Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, Elvis Costello, Mi-Sex, Simple Minds, Kim Wilde, Yazoo, Spandau Ballet, and my favourite, Blondie

I am sorry about your Cancer & will keep you in my prayers. As for music, all I can think of have already been mentioned except for Lionel Ritchey's Dancing on the Ceiling & anything by Fleetwood Mack. Yes I am dating myself here. LOL

Elton John Yellow Brick Road, Elton John anything... Billy Joel The Piano Man CD, Meatloaf-Return to Hell, if you're truly angry  Billy Idol's I Will Survive  I love Melissa Etheridge and Janis Joplin, the Beatles White Album,

While I was being treated for blood clots I visualized the bad cells as ice cream cones, and each zap of treatment they slowly m-e-l-t-e-d. It really helped my attitude and I think it killed the clots. :-P

I also listened to PowWow music, the drums were awesome to stomp out the bad guys.

I will send positive thoughts and victory prayers your way.

You HAVE to check out Dr Hook and the Medicine Show, they rock hard, are very funny, and sing dirty songs! LOL too funny. Shel Silverstein wrote alot of their songs, the off color ones anyway. My fave is Freakin' at the Freaker's Ball, I have NEVER heard that on the radio, I think it is banned.

Look them up on you tube,if you like them let me know and I will send you a list of the upbeat stuff. Happy listening and {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}} Hope you feel better soon. Now I sure am glad MY appendix ruptured, never knew before that could be a GOOD thing.
