"Clean enough to be comfortable."

How "clean" does your home have to be for you to be comfortable in it?

I just dusted downstairs and scrubbed down the bathroom. I'm done for the season.
My only two personal cleaning rules are dishes done and beds made.

My home is for comfort...not for show. And since I would rather be doing something else besides cleaning, that works for me. One thing I try never to do is have dishes in the sink....they are either in the dishwasher ready for washing or are hand washed & put away. You'd be amazed at how good it feels to wake up to a clean sink every morning.

Everyday ...bed made..or a semblance of being made!..., dishes washed in the evening, kitchen tidied after a meal, bathroom given a once-over.
Once a week..DH does vacuuming throughout the house on weekends and I mop the kitchen and deep-clean the bathroom. On weekends, I also wash and change bed linens and do any other laundry that needs to be done.

Dust furniture when I can doodle in the dust. Scrubbing...special occasions only.

No kids here now so not much to do. I like it!

My mothers house had sign that said it was clean enough to be healthy and dirty enough to be happy. My Mother-in-Laws house was a museum with do not touch anything vibes. When our children were little we had to stay in hotels, although she had plenty of extra bedrooms. We were always nervous about a spill and never relaxed. My parents played with our children inside all the time, and went for wagon rides and hikes outside. At MIL we had to go to the park so we didn't step on the lawn. Sorry for the rant , but can you guess the memories our children have and how I enjoy our grandchildren in our house?

I have to have the bathrooms clean or I'm not happy. But I'm not too picky anywhere else- oh except for the kitchen. It's always a mess b/c my husband is a major foodie but he cleans it up very well. So I guess clutter is more of what it is than dirty. I would love my house cleaner than I'm willing to spend time doing it so I guess I've made my choice!
As Kitsie says, good enough not to be embarrassed. My husband is a big help. We will spend time working and then we're okay with it.

I learned to clean a clean house so my house is usually always clean enough I wouldn't be embarrassed if anyone stopped by unexpected and wanted to use my bathroom.
