What a scarey thing to happen! Sounds like you kept your wits about you and handled everything in a very safe and sensible way...not easy to do when you are frightened! Hopefully, the police will find these guys and put your mind to ease.

Gee, I'm so sorry. I'm sure you were up all night, I know that I would be. Don't open your door no matter what......I live alone also and have a gun. I live in an apt and feel fairly safe, but you never know.

Back in August, when it was really really hot here, I had a guy knock on my door one Sat. evening about 7 pm; I stupidly opened the door thinking it was my daughter stopping by....this Dude stood there in a black hoodie with a ball cap on.....I happened to be on the phone with another daughter....the guy mumbled something....I told my daughter on the phone, "I don't know who it is but call the police"....the guy sprinted away and up the stairs to the parking lot ! I later learned that the previous tenant had "sold stuff" out of that apt....I've sinced moved to another apt in the same complex but am still cautious.

When I lived alone in a house in another city, there was a knock on my door one night and I didn't know who it was, turned on the porch light and a guy stood there......he said he wanted to "ask me something.....I said, hold on, then I yelled really loud, CARL THERE IS SOMEONE HERE I DON'T KNOW AND YOU NEED TO COME TALK TO HIM ! I lived in a subdivision, actually the back part of the subdivision and if someone was looking for directions they wouldn't of been that far off the main thoroughfare !

Well, there wasn't a "Carl" there but he didn't know that....the guy at the door took off, needless to say I was shakened after that ! I turned on all the outside lights and spent the night peering out the windows. Nothing ever happened but I think I deterred that guy from showing up at my door.

I agree with other entries, someone must of been checking out your place; stay safe; stay aware, keep your gun handy (which is sad); don't hesitate for a moment to call 911....that is their job.

Can you get outside security lights ? Maybe even a motion detector light that would come on if any one or anything got close ? I have a motion detector outside my apartment and when it comes on I usually peek out the window and see a deer, a cat, one time I saw a fox, but it comforting to know it is there.

Be strong, be safe and know that there are a lot of folks on this board especially concerned about you and your safety. Will add you to my prayer list.

Sincerely,
Sandy

I have a security system, 2 loud although small dogs and dark to dawn automatic lights all over my house. My husband was deployed a lot and my kids are all gone and these things freak me out. I never hesitate to call the police if something doesn't seem right. I am not a fragile easy to scare person but these days it doesn't seem to matter. The only thing I don't have is a gun because I am terrified of them and don't want one any where near me. Wish I could get over that. Good Luck. I hope you are ok and settled by now!

I've always found that the sound of racking a round in a shot gun has more effect that just saying that I have a gun. I live out in the country with my two daughters and we've had a scare or two also. I hope you're ok today. hopefully you'll hear something from the police soon and you can put ur mind at ease.
