Default I just had to share this with you....

I received some GOOD NEWS the other day that I just wanted to share wil all of you. I recently bid on a ring (and won it) at an on line acution site. They said it was a color-changing sapphire mounted in 14K gold. The mounting of the stone was the ugliest mounting I ever saw, but the stone was very pretty. I was anxious to recieve the ring in the mail to see if was as ugly in person as it was online. IT WAS EVEN UGLIER, however, the stone was absolutely goergous. I was hoping I didn't throw my few hundred dollars away. I've never done anything like this before, but there was something about this ring that I just had a feeling.

I took it to my jeweler wanting to get an appraisal. He could not do an appraisal. He had never seen a color changing saphire. It has an RI 1.66-1.67, which says it is a color changing sapphire. He couldn't tell if the stone was natural or synthetic. If the stone is natural and a color changing sapphire, it could be valued around $75,000. If it is a natural alexandrite, it could be valued in the six digits. He got a little excited while he was looking at it though his microscope. He told me I would have to take it to a licensed gemologist. I took it to another jeweler who is not a gemologist either, but he also go quite excited while looking at it. He asked what I paid, and when I told him, his eyes got extremely large, his mouth flew open and he mutter "aaahhhh". Naturally that got me a little more excited.

Unfortunatley, I will have to wait until Christmas is over before I can get in to see a licensed gemologist. They are all to busy with Christmas. This waiting is driving me a little crazy. As you can imagine, I took it straight to the bank to put in my safety deposit box, until I can find out more information. I may have fly it to NY or Carlsbad, CA to a GIA lab.

Will let you ALL know what the final outcome will be.

How Exciting! I hope that when you get it to a gemologist that the appraisal comes out as good as the local jeweler has predicted.

I hope you have a photo of it to show us .... Please!

yes! Would love to see a picture!!! Pretty exciting

I love gem stones - I'm attracted to bright and colorful things like a Magpie! I hate wearing jewelery (except a watch and the plainest wedding band), but I LOVE gem stones. I do have a small collection of gem stone stud earrings though and I wear them on occasion. I only wear studs, and I like them BIG. One of my favorite stones are my Padparadscha. I have two pair ... one synthetic and one natural. I got the synthetic ones first, and found the natural pair quite by accident - had them appraised at 20 times what I paid for them. I actually like the synthetic ones better because of the shape and size.

Good luck with your color changer!! I'll cross my Padparadscha for you

Oh wow! So wonderful for you... I'm always afraid to do anything like this, cause generally I always end up losing instead of winning. Sure sounds as if you WON on this one though! Congratulations!

That is awesome...everyone's dream find!! Do you still think the setting is ugly? With the price of gold...you can have it remade into something you like. BUT...DO NOT LEAVE the stone with anyone! You should be allowed to watch them put the stone into the setting...if they don't like that...find another jeweler. Can you post a picture?
