so far this week I've gotten up to my back door being wide open almost every morning. It seems that Tucker has learned to open the door.....he usually wants out about 4 or 5 and I let him out and then go back to bed for a bit. When I get up around 7 or so he is back in and the door is wide open. I've also caught him with his mouth on the knob trying to go out. Our backyard is completely fenced and so is the deck so I'm not worried about the door being open...like I would be if it was the front door. It just lets bugs and flies in which is annoying...oh and the cats. I don't want the cats messing in the house. They are the reason we haven't made a dog door before now. Its a good thing I love him! Last night he was so cute. He was hot and we had the ac on in the bedroom. He went behind my "design wall " curtain (where it was the coldest) and laid down but made sure his head was sticking out so he could watch me!

We had a doggie door on our back porch. A snake came through one time and we no longer have a doggie door.

well as far as I know there are no skunks here...haven't smelled one in the 10 years we've been here and I would pity the coon or possum that tried to come past my two guys! So I'm not too worried about that. Nothing comes in the yard that doesn't belong there. They make sure of that. Stray cats are enough to send them ballistic and wake the whole house at night. How dare a cat come in their yard?

We have a doggie door for our cats!! They love it. We have an old fashioned back porch (they called it a deck  ) and DH put chicken wire all over it so the cats can sit out there at night..... ;-) They love it - it's kinda like the "Beverly Hill Billies came to La Pine  ) They'll hate it when we remove it and put in the new deck. We don't have snakes so that's not a problem......birds and chipmunks are a different story though

We had a pitbull puppy years ago we kept in my auto upholstery shop at night or when I was gone during the day. She would open the door to go outside tot he bathroom, then come back in and shut the door. I must have gone through at least a dozen doorknobs. Then I locked it from the outside, she chewed through the overhead roll up door. I ended up giving her to a family that lived on a farm.

This is too funny. We were having breakfast one day down in Gilchrist. Some lady referred to people in La Pine as the "The La Pine Rednecks" She was obviously one of those "Gilchrist yuppies".....LOL

well these cats are outdoors for a reason! They refused to use a litterbox. Didn't matter how many they were or how clean they were...they still went on our beds. So they got booted out and the dogs have run of the house! I can stand an occasional accident on the floor but when you clean litterboxes, go to bed and wake up to find cat poop on your couch or bed it gets rather annoying. So the cats are not welcome in the house! Oh the vet could find nothing wrong with them.

This is the first place we've lived that we've had a doggy door. I'm hooked. The back is fenced in, actually it's all cinder blocked, so something would have to jump that wall to get in. Someone in the neighborhood lets their cats roam about (I won't get on my soapbox about that) so our dog will get noisy when they are up on the wall.
