And then there's the Ann McCaffree science fiction series, love them, anything she writes but won't buy any with her son's name on them any more.

There's the Jill Churchill series, featuring Jane Jeffery, a widow who solves murders.

And of course there are the funny and pretty close to real Maggody series by Joan Hess. These are pretty close to describing a Buchanan I dated ONCE many years ago and as
soon as I read about that family in her books, I remembered him clearly, no matter how much I tried to forget him!!

Like camping/fishing? Try Patrick McManus's books, they are funny. "They shoot canoes, don't they?" and others like that are a real hoot. And check out older books, starting with the 1920s and up. Cheaper By the Dozen is a classic, as are the Betty McDonald series, starting with "Cheaper by the Dozen", and two by Louise Dickenson Rich that are real classics, "We Took to the Woods" and "Happy The Land" have soothed me for many years.
Oh, great suggestions!! Thanks so much. I loved Cheaper by the Dozen and other older books, like the Miss Read series and I Capture the Castle.

------------------------Sorry, correction here. Betty McDonald wrote "The Egg and I", "The Plague and I" and "Onions in the Stew", and "Cheaper By The Dozen" was by a couple of the Gilbreth family. It and the follow up, "Belles On Their Toes" are also some of my favorites. Loved the books, liked the old movie, but absolutely hated the one with Steve Martin. It was set in modern days, which right there killed the charm of the first one.

Thanks!! Making note...I really enjoyed The Forgotten Garden also. I listened to it and the reader was great.
If you liked The Forgotten Garden, you should try The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. Great read!

I like mysteries. the ones set in things like a resturant or a knitting store or any crafty place. I read a lot . I just like a good story. Janet Evanovich cracks me up. I love her grandmother.
Love her stuff, great author. I second the Mitford Series.

No, I have not! And I keep seeing references here, of course. Will check at my library! Are these mysteries?
No, they have the same characters or members of the same family. Quilting is a central thread in each book. They are present day stories, but also stories of the Civil war and before. Each one interconnects with the modern day Elm Creek Quilters.

I agree! Great series.

The Miss Julia series by Ann B. Ross is a lot of fun. Anything by Cassandra King, Dorothea Benton Frank, and Elizabeth Berg would be a good read.

If you like fiction about women supporting other women/good friends helping others through a crisis, try Kris Radish. One of my favourites!
