Feline Fanatic, just remembered I have an old army wool blanket sitting in one of my closets. I love my wool mat sol I'm sure I'll love using the wool blanket the next time I need to make a new cover for my big board. What did you cover yours with? Could I still use the silver heat resistant fabric over the wool blanket and still get the unique heating that the wool gives?

I think the lines on an ironing board are the cat's meow. I have a plain canvas cover on my ironing board and drew lines on it with a ball point pen. As I'm ironing, it helps me to know how big the piece is. And I can keep a square square as I iron. Especially helpful when making blocks with bias edges.

I made a Paddle Wheel a few years back and those lines kept my squares perfectly square.

The best ironing board cover you can possibly have is one made of canvas. That';s right - canvas. Using your current cover as a pattern, cut a new cover from canvas and put on your board. Never scorches, doesn't wear out and does a wonderful job. You can buy canvas at JoAnnes or any upholstery shop. I'll never use a commercially made cover again.

Talked the ladies in my quilting group to making a big board. Got two plus 3 smaller pressing board from one sheet of plywood. I covered one exactly this way and they liked it so well they had another's DH cover the other one. Think I'm going to get one of the smaller boards for myself for pressing on a table....

I make my own ironing board covers. Here's a link to a tutorial. https://www.momtastic.com/diy/109506...g-board-cover/ It's pretty simple and you can make yourself a custom cover. I use insulbrite and 100% cotton batting to pad it.
