I Rescued A Beauty!
Well...it's not a beauty yet. I love buying rustic furniture and refinishing it. I found this lovely piece a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday I thought I would pull it out and get started on it. OMG, WHAT WAS I THINKING???? Initially I was just going to sand it down and paint it white. After looking at it again yesterday, I thought I would give it a crackle finish and cut out the center for a climbing vine. I'm just not sure.
Any suggestions?

I would first check to see if it has lead paint before sanding. If it's okay, I would paint it a colour to match my front door and put a plant with tray on it. I would then place it on my front step by my mailbox?

I would go with the paint remover, and then sand.. stain, and use a matte finish rub on urethane.. I don't think I would cut into it.. I love rescuing antique furniture.. Our newspaper ran an article last week on what great stuff is available if people would take the time, and refinish them.. Have fun

I would lightly sand it (just enough to rough it up), (don't change it at all), paint it with several coats of marine polyurethane and use it as an outdoor piece in a garden with a plant on the seat (Don't cut any holes it in, just set a pot on the seat). It is a gorgeous chair just the way it is. Your could hang a garden tool from the two little rungs on the side of the back. It is a lovely piece of furniture (Be sure to bring it in in the winter). You have a real find there. Edie

I like the idea of finishing it to match your front door ... or trim of your home.
Rather than cut into it ... set a potted plant on the seat. Looks like a hanging basket minus the hanger would fit perfectly! The chair is saved and leaves you with lots of options.
I have a similar one in my office and that's exactly the way I use it. Sometimes it holds a plant. At Christmas a poinsettia. Right now a Peace Lily. Sometimes a teddy bear. In the winter a snowman sits a spell! And what else but a Bunny for Easter!! Or whatever I'm in the mood for!
