Hey there.... back in business, power is restored in my subdivision, but a goodly chunk of our city is still powerless here in central Virginia.

My daughter in Scranton PA had a tree come down on her roommates car, it was a WIDE and dangerous storm!!!

I hope everyone made it through ok. I have photos at my blog, the personal blog one, in my signature. I would link you directly, but whenever I do that I get in trouble with TPTB here, so....

We did pretty good considering the damage that could have happened. We only lost power for a few seconds and only a few tree branches down. I was surprised that I was able to get to downtown Norfolk on Sunday for work. That area floods really bad but 630 am on Sunday it was great. I'm glad you came thru the storm pretty good. It'll take a week of so for all to get thier power back on. My son lives in Chesapeake and they lose power for just about all storms. I think it's because Chesapeake and Virginia Beach have so many pine trees and they snap easier. I pray there is a short recovery for all that were affected; and there were alot.

Thank you very much. I have to admit that I was very nervous about this storm. I have a large tree in my yard right next to my house that I was afraid would come down. The last hurricane pulled up most of the large trees in my nieghborhood and mine waved back and forth. The only thing that saved it from the last one was that it had been recently topped out so it wasn't so top heavy. For the past couple of years my boss goes to Nags Head for the holiday and for the past 3 of them we get a large storm w/lots of damages. I told her that next vacation she has to plan it on the west coast; away from all of us. Nags Head did get alot of damage though; enough that this year she will have to cancel her vacation going there. Piolet online has great photos of it. You take care and we can all count our blessings with this one.

took some pics but can't download them- no electricity. They say it will be a few more days.

What do you do when the power is out and you can't sew? I took all the pages and pages of patterns I have printed from the 'net, three hole punched them and put them in notebooks. Had my son take all my tubs of fabric to the basement from the 2nd floor and stack them so I can organize them. After the 10th one- "Mom, do not bring another piece of fabric into this house!" And after being told there were 3 more in the other bedroom closet- "No way- I don't want to see you buy another of these totes!"

Wait until tonight, the cardboard boxes of notions are calling his name. :)

that's too funny; non-quilters don't understand. I wish I had the funds to own half as much fabric as you have. Congratulations. Do you do any sewing/piecing/embroidery by hand; these would be good to do now. I bring these into work so that I have something to do when I'm not busy. Hopefully your power will be back on soon

I have been glued to the new reports leading up to and following "Irene". So glad you made it thru okay! The flooding now seems to be so bad according to news. My heart & prayers go out to all those affected.

Too funny!!!

I can't tell you how many people came into the store tonight and got mad at us because we had no more lamp oil. The storm was THREE days ago!! (Mind you, on Saturday morning they were all complaining about the cost of the oil!! smh!!!) My shopping center is on the edge of one very lucky electric grid, because we never lost power at work...
