I think they have newer models too that have color and wifi as well. Plus the Sony Reader Library has lots and lots of free books, and new ones come out all the time. I have heard lots of things about Amazon and B&N not having much in the way of free books.....
My mom has the Sony reader and likes it but agrees that the Sony library is limited when compared to the Kindle. I think the key to this arguement is what books YOU want to read.

Amazon has really revamped a lot of things on their Kindle readers. From touch screen versions to color. You can now borrow books from libraries who subscribe to Overdrive, etc. If you live near a BestBuy store, you can do a hands-on comparison.

My DH and I do a lot of reading and buy mostly the discount books or used books. We looked into the possibility of buying one of these until we realized that the books would cost us so much more than we spend now. Trying to watch our money these days.

I have had my Kindle for a few months now. I have downloaded 80+ books and have not had to pay for any of them. It has broadened my horizon on reading. I was rather in a rut when it came to authors. This has helped me get out of the box.

I am also an authorized Kindle cover seller. (Credit to Chica&Joe.)

I don't think you will be disappointed if you order one. So handy to take to doctor's offices etc. I carry mine in my purse wherever I go. You never know when you have to wait. It's more compact than a book which is sometimes awkward to carry around.

I have the nook color that I've converted to an android tablet. LOVE it. I can read b&n books, amazon books, library books, and ereader books on it. I am not positive but I believe that with the kindle fire, you're limited to buying only at amazon.

The nook I have was $250. I think the kindle fire will be around $200. And I'm pretty sure the cheapest ipad is about $500. Money was the reason for me.

I pre ordered the Kindle Fire. One thing, I'm more careful with my IPad and usually don't want to take it everywhere I go. The Kindle is easier to stick in my purse and the $79 one is much easier to drop or lose then the $600 IPad.

Kindle Fire, I think that's the name
Am also interested in what everyone has to say.
My mother just informed me that she ordered a new Fire for each of us for Christmas. Can't wait. Lots of friends have them and they are all happy with them. The Fire is color and super fast for downloads, etc. I can also use for email, etc., which will be great to travel with because I won't have to carry a laptop with me. They're supposed to ship around the third week of November.

I got my Kindle a couple of months ago, after eye surgery. I've always been an avid reader, but failing eyesight in recent years have curtailed this enjoyment.
I'm once again a reading "fiend" LOL.
I spend a lot of time at the VA Hospital, and time flies when I'm reading a favorite novel or studing the Bible, in preparation for Bible Study class on Sunday morning. Research capabilities are great too.
It does all kinds of "stuff" but I bought it mainly for the book selections and I love it. I think my favorite feature it the abillity to enlarge the font size that is comfortable for me.
There are 3 priced versions on Amazon, pick the one that offers the things that are important to you. I got the middle priced one.
I'm sure other members can give you more info, but for me, the reader is perfect

I have a Kindle. Kindle is proprietary which means you have to purchase books from Amazon - or convert books purchased from Barnes & Nobel through a free online site called Calibre. I have not used Calibre yet so I can't say if it is easy or hard or if it even works. Books are priced about the same on Amazon as at Barnes & Nobel. There are thousands of free books available too that will load on to Kindle. You can get thousands of 'classics' at gutenberg.com for any e-reader you purchase. Keep in mind if you purchase a Nook or another brand, you may not be able to down load books from Amazon.
Having an e-reader that is back lit (like a computer screen) makes it easier to read in bed, but the bright light may actually keep you awake longer. There are lights that will clip on to your e-reader making it much more like reading a printed page.
If you can go to Barnes & Nobel and look at what they have, it might help you decide. Do your research to find what features you might like and who has the best price. Good luck and enjoy your new e-reader.
