I am typing this because I am so sad. My DS came over to check out the kittens & had a severe allergic reaction. I was expecting a couple of sneezes. He broke out with itchy red hives almost immediately. We had no idea he would react to them so badly. I guess I have to give the kittens back. My DD is distraught and I feel guilty, responsible, and so sad. I adore my son. He visits frequently and is good company. There's really no choice. So sad.

AWWWWW that is sad...I have to cover my guest room bed so that my cats will not lie on the quilt and pillows..my Grandkids are slightly allergic and complain of itchy eyes, sniffles, etc. I don't want them not to sleep at my house because of that.

ohhh, I'm so sorry! I would be lost without mine (one). But if it meant missing my son, I would give him up, reluctantly. I feel so bad for you! :(

I am so sorry. My DD ex BF was the same way. Our kitty didn't go on furniture and once we moved to this house she very seldom come upstairs into the living room/main part of the house. Yet the first few times BF come here within minutes his eyes swelled almost shut. He didn't know what causes it at first because kitty wasn't around. After that when he come over he took allergy meds that help somewhat but not totally.

I would give a pet up in a heart beat if it was unhealthy for my child to be around. Allergies are nothing to fool around with. They could be life threating even an allergy to a pet.

Since DD is upset why not get a tiny dog. I understand they could be litter box trained so you don't have to take them for a walk. It is the cats saliva that people are allergic to so a tiny little 5 lb dog might just be your answer.

I used to know some folks who raised tiny Chihuahuas and sold them to parents of kids with allergies and asthma.

There is a vast range of types with these little fellows, from one that looks sorta like a tiny collie to a deer legged one to the usual big eared fellow who loves tacos.

Maybe your son could get near one of these, it's worth a try. If you know someone with a Chihuahua and could introduce them it may work.

Oh gosh, that is so sad. I know you were enjoying these critters a lot. Has he never been around cats or anyone with them to know he was allergic? Quite a reaction.
