Hubby and I were thinking of getting a tempur-pedic mattress when we get back to the States. So, I would love to hear from all who have this kind of mattress or maybe know someone who has one. What are the pros and cons? My main concern is how fast does it break down and loses the firmness.
Or, if you have a different mattress and absolutely love it, tell me about it.
Any input is greatly appreciated. :-D

We don't have one we have a pillowtop. When we bought our mattresses we checked out those tempurpedic and I didnt like it at all. To me it was very uncomfortable and not as soft as a regular mattress and it had a smell that just typing this brings back the smell memories. But that is only me. Others may love them. When do you get back to the states?

We still have at least 19 months to go here in Japan. So, plenty of time to do some research to find the perfect mattress.

I have a memory foam mattress pad (3 inch) on top of a firm foam slab that I bought from Penneys. Best mattress I've ever had. I gave up on the expensive mattresses. We've had this set up 10 years and counting. Will not give it up.:)

Edit: I have arthritis and have no problems with stiffness in the morning. Similar to the Tempurpedic mattress as the memory foam is the basically the same stuff.

We've had our Tempurpedic for over 7 years and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! I was pregnant when we got it and had terribly stiff joints and lots of pain in my hips when I slept. My first night on our Tempurpedic, I woke up pain-free in the morning and was ready to star in a t.v. commercial to sell these mattresses. We'll never buy a spring mattress again.

It did smell a bit when it was first here but we had it on our floor for a couple of weeks to "air out". We expedited this process by walking on it whenever we passed through the room (no shoes of course).

One of the best things about it is the way it absorbs motion. I'm a VERY light sleeper and since having our Tempurpedic, I no longer wake up every time DH rolls over during the night. It's so great. I'd highly recommend it.

When mattress shopping, we also looked at the Sleep Number bed. We didn't like that we could feel the frame going down the center of the bed. But my biggest problem was that I liked the mattress soft to lay on, but then it was too soft to sit on. I would have had to increase the firmness of the mattress to sit on the edge of the bed just to put on my socks. Kind of crazy and too much hassle.

The Tempurpedic felt very firm to me when we tried it at the store, but we had a 3-month money back guarantee so we bought it. I'm so glad we did!

I tried a tempurpedic pillow (much cheaper investment tahn a tempurpedic mattress) and wound up returning it. It was like sleeping with a rock under my head. Now I have a pillowtop on a firm mattress. LOVE it. My husband hates it, but likes sleeping with me. :)

Get a Sleep Number...you can each set your side to what you want. Now we both sleep good!

We have a temperpedic the really firm one. I have to because of joint and back issues. It is overly firm I think unless you need that. Also we have a split set and I am not keen on the cold air comming up through the center crack. If I had to do it again I might go for the one size one instead of the two pieces. I do like being able to set the frame so my legs can be up etc. In the winter the matress if cold and in the summer it si sweaty. Kind of a problem with foam matteresses. Overal it has been good because of my joint issues.

I have a pillow top and I hate it now because you cannot flip your mattress the way you're supposed too; meaning it's already caved in on one side.
Never again will I buy a pillow top, and it's only (2) years old.
