Good for you! I used to do all that when the kids were young. I grew up in an apple orchard, so I know every way possible to use an apple. I used to make apple butter, grape jam, plum jam. My kids didn't know what store-bought jam tasted like.

I would do canning too if I had the fruits free to me. I would be going crazy canning.
I am sure it's all worth it in the end.

My neighbor has an apple tree, I could see it from my sewing area. Last year she made such a big deal she gave some to one of the other neighbors, she said enough for a pie. This woman doesn't cook EVER and yet she never offerend me any. I would have made applebutter and jelly and would have given her some. it bothers me to no end that the apples fall to the ground and it is good food being wasted.



I have a loaf of bread rising I will be at you house when it is baked. Your jams look yummmmmmooooooo I will have the blueberry.

Those jars of jam bring back happy memories of helping my mom to can fruit and make all kinds of jams and marmalade, she even did something with uncooked eggs to keep them over the winter. My hubby makes some lovely apple and tomato chutney, nothing tastes as good as home made.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm I can taste them now on homemade biscuits! I love homemade jam. Good for you!!

I can also, although not this year. I tend to do it every other year. I have never canned anything in a pressure canner until last year. I asked my DH for a pressure canner for Christmas 2 years ago and, of course, I got one. My mother use to can her own soups before I came along. Well, I worked up the courage and made big stock pots of chicken noodle, vegetable, bean and split pea soups. I also did some chili. It turned out great! Nothing like a cold winter day and going down to the pantry and opening a jar of soup. Plus it is healthier, not all that salt that store bought has. And more room in my freezer and no waiting for it to thaw when the cravings strike!!! 8-)

Grann, I need other ideas what to do with apples... We have soooooooo much and it would be nice to have a variety to choose from over the year..

I never thought of canning soups and chili beans. I always freeze them. How long of a shelf life do they have? I wonder if this would work for chicken noodle cassarole or a chicken and rice cassarole?

You can make apple cider and freeze it. I follow a blog and they just did that. If you can't bring them some place to have the apples pressed into cider you can do it will a juicer. however since the juicer removes the juice from the apple and still leaves the apple pulp I would take the pulp put it in a pot add water, you will still have the apple flavor it is just missing all the juice and I would make apple butter or apple sauce with the pulp. or freeze it and use the pulp in replace of bananas in banana bread adding cinnamon cloves and nutmeg to the recipe.
