I know this subject is not quilting however I need some help with making an embroidery runner. The pattern consists of squares but the directions don't tell me how to sew the squares together. Any suggestions?

Its hard to say without seeing a picture. So the squares combined make a scene or are they still individual blocks. Are the same size. You'd probably lay them out the way you want and then sew them as quilt squares. Does the pattern have a name. Give us more info to help

Yes a picture would help.......if they are individual blocks perhaps sashing the blocks.........and romanojg did ask if the blocks make a scene.........

I agree with the need for a picture but it would be as good or better if you could you give us the name of the embroidery patterns and/or quilt pattern it is supposed to make. There are so many ways things can go together and then there is the way the designer planned it, which can sometimes be modified, sometimes better not to change it at all. We are all very willing to help, but we just need more info please.

Thank you for all you responses. I am sorry for the lack of info. so I hope the following help. The pattern is made up for 3 different squares. Each square is embroidered using stabilizer. Here is a picture of the squares laid out as a placement size so that you can see basically what it will look like. (I also show each square separately) The size will be a lot larger as it is going to be a runner down the center of a long table.

Unfortunately, I downloaded the pattern many tears ago but I don't remember who company I purchased the pattern from. What I am thinking is to zigzag the square together with small stitches so that they stitches cannot not be seen.

Wow, that is going to be fantastic. I think that a small zigzag would work for putting them together. Hope you share it when finished.

They could be whipped stitched together by hand or appliqued down with a zigzag on a piece of material. You would lose the see through quality if you did that, and I suspect you want a lace. If you made more of the sides, you could use the center ones as cutwork for a table cloth. You have a lot of ways you could go with these. They would really be neat on a vest as a bottom fringey type strip. Use the centers as cut outs to see through the vest material. Or on a really pretty shawl with part of the border as the lace and others as the solid fabric. So many ideas are rushing through my head....too many.

To keep it lacey and as a former crochet addict, I would probably try something with crochet thread, the really small stuff, like a slip stitch holding each block together. I hope you post another pic when you are done. Those are really amazing!

i might try this also with a wash away stabilizer underneath the stitching area - probably invisible thread. Beautiful.

Your layout is perfect and if it were me, I would use an appropriate white thread and zig-zag the blocks together in rows first and then the rows together.

The zig zagging is normally FSL is put together, that or hand stitched depending on the project. Yours, I'd machine zigzag them together so they be stronger.
