I think these are the cutest dogs and just wondering if anybody has one. We currently have a Golden retriever and he is the sweetest dog. I'm thinking about a Goldendoodle in the future for our next dog and was wondering about thier personality / temperment. My Charlie is a big dog (110 lb) but he is such a gentle giant. Great around cats, rabbits and toddlers and I hope to find another dog like him.

I also have a Golden and love him to death. He's only about 65 lbs and a little over a year old. I just wanted to ask you at what age do these darlings chill out? Harley is soooooooo hyper that it's hard for me to physically handle him sometimes.

DB has a Golden now too, he says his next one will be a Goldendoodle due to the shedding and my allergy issues. I love his baby a lot but he really gets my allergies going LOL

The ones we have seen were mellow/intelligent/affectionate/good with kids, like his Golden but without the shedding/allergy issues.

I have a doodle...she is very smart and quite the stinker. First of all, I love her to pieces, but she is really full of energy. She really needs to get out to run once a day to keep her happy. We keep her hair trimmed short...like a poodle cut, but she really has the golden hair...more straight, but with with curl. She would shed in clumps if left long. She turned 2 on Nov. 10 and I swear that was a magical age as she has shown a lot of settling down and/or maturing. Not all doodles are super energetic like mine...I guess shop around and know your breeder. Good luck. Where in WI do you live? We have a home in Green Lake, WI.

I have a golden doodle named ...you guessed it doodle. She is sweet and smart and has alot of golden in her as they can tend to have alot of energy. We got her from a pet store but only because it is a friend whom grooms my poodle and coca poo lol Her only bad trait is her love of deer poop, we live on a farmett and she rolls when given to much freedom. LOL

My Doodle is now 5yrs and still has more energy than both my other poodle/mixes put together. Still wondering when she will settle down too. Don't mean to discourage you.

I have a goldendoodle. Regarding temperament, you can either get the poodle type of high energy dog or the golden type of laid back dog. You can also get soft wavy hair or tight curly wool! My girl Lexi (a bit under 7 years old) is definitely a golden inside though she looks very much like a poodle outside. She's very mellow and generally just follows us around inside. She has very curly hair that really is wooly, not loose curls. We have her trimmed in a poodle "puppy cut" which is just an all over trim with her golden retriever tail and ears left silky and longer. We have her trimmed every 6 weeks, and she needs a bath at the inbetween spot (3 weeks) generally. You can learn to do it yourself or you can have it done (like we do), but you can't ignore their fur or you get a mess!

We decided on a doodle because we wanted a golden but just couldn't take the hair (we had "babysat" a friend's golden numerous times). Like any big dog, you really need to get them into obedience training as a puppy and keep them well socialized. Lexi went to puppy classes and then a few sessions of obedience. A big poorly trained dog is a disaster no matter what the breed! Make sure you know the breeder and make sure you know how they socialize their puppies. Ours was family raised and mom and the entire litter lived in the house with children and cats, so Lexi never had a problem with either.

BTW: Don't believe the hype that cross breed dogs don't get the genetic issues that single breeds do. Lexi has a pretty bad case of hyothyroidism that is definitely genetic and associated with golden retrievers. Treating it is simple - a pill morning and evening.

I also have a golden ret. who will be 2 in a couple of weeks. He has ALOT of energy and I am not sure at what age they "chill"!!. We love him to death however the shedding I do not love to death!!! His breeder also has just started breeding goldendoodles says she feel in love with them! I think their tempermant and socialization has alot to do with the breeder for sure. He was very socialized as a young pup and we kept up with that. Easy enough to do, since goldens are so very friendly. I would not mind having a goldendoodle or labradoodle for my golden ret. Janetter your Doodle is a doll. Charlie is 9 years old and has always been a mellow, laid back dog. He does shed but so does the cat and rabbit and we don't mind. We should by stock in those sticky, roller things.

We have a goldendoodle-Riley is 9 and a labradoodle- Yukon is 5.
Fun dogs! Limited shedding and work well with my allergies.
One thing I did as a puppy is make them sit next to me on a short leash. (My FIL did that with his dog and says they learn that they can just lay there even if the puppy brain is running wild.) Riley was the star of her obedience class and was used as the example. They both live in the house with us and are part of the family.
Riley is starting to show her age. She is reluctant to run as far and as often with the ATV. She prefers to ride along now.
