Does anyone have a good suggestion for a non-held strong magnifying glass? I would like to do some counted cross-stitch on 40 ct linen and these old eyes (and my old round-the-neck magnifier) just won't do the trick! Many thanks!

I wear a pair of readers overtop my bifocals when I need to do handwork. You might try a pair of strong readers first. They are comfortable and inexpensive.

I bought a pair of 2X clip-on magnifying glasses on Amazon that just clip on my other glasses. They flip up when I don't need to use the magnifiers. They also had stronger ones available.

I don't know what strength you need, but you can buy readers at the dollar store that are as high as 4.0. I buy them by the dozen.

I have a pair of Mighty Sight glasses. Those that are advertised on TV. I use them for seam ripping and binding by hand. I like that they include LED lights.

I remember when I was a little girl, looking at my grandfather who was using a magnifying glass to read the newspaper. I thought it was strange, funny, odd. And now here I am, probably a lot older than he was then, using a magnifying glass to read labels. Isn't life strange?

My grandmother had a floor lamp with a round light and a magnifying glass in the middle which she could pull over for her to read the newspaper. She didn't want to hold on to the paper and the magnifying glass - she bought it back in the 80's. It must have been something her a doctor recommended or she found in a catalog. (She lived in Burlington KS and going to Emporia was going to the big city after she turned 75.) She lived to be 93.
