I had them twice before in the 9 years I am living here.
I thought they chewed the fabric to make nests. That's what is freaking me out I don't want holes in my fabric.

try getting plastic buckets to store flour in ( the kind that joint compound or cat litter come in, with snap lids. ) Sometimes you can get them from restaurants or bakeries, donut filling comes in them also.
As long as you have holes, mice will come in. Get a can of expanding foam and seal up holes.
I have used the bars also, I leave them in my attic every winter. The pellets are not as good as the mice just move them around a lot. The bars, they have to gnaw on it and eat some. Brand names are Tomcat or Hawk.

I have heard that bars of Irish Spring soap will keep them out of stuff? Dont know if thats true or not....

The last time I had mice, I tried everything. From the little machines that make a sound to peppermint that is supposed to drive them away. Didn't Work!!! Sticky traps are gross and work for a couple mice, then the mice smarten up and avoid them. I finally had to use bar bait in every single room in my house. I have to hide it because of the dog, and yes I had to pick up dead mice everywhere, but I will tell you I would rather pick up dead mice and throw them out than to have the damage from the mice. I even have to fix a wall where they chewed through it. They didn't however chew through the rubbermaid. I guess there were too many other things for them to eat.

The electronic little boxes don't work, but the large ones do. When I was selling my house I found mice and of course, I almost lost it. I went to Lowes and found this electric box, rather large, about 8 inches across. I set it in the basement and by the next day there wasn't a mouse in sight, and they never came back.

My husband puts out Dcon. They eat it and then it makes them thirsty. They will then usually leave the house to look for water, once they drink it, they die. Haven't had any problems with one dying any where in the house.

Hockeymom - try putting out dcon in different places in your basement. They also have these new traps that are being advertised on television. The mouse goes inside the trap and then they can't get back out. You don't have to see or touch the mouse. If you have a household pet, be sure and don't let it get into the dcon.

PLEASE!!! DO NOT use poison pellets or D-Con if you have pets or small children...Some pellets are peanut butter scented and dogs love them...and then die in agony!
They contain an anticoagulant.

Also, if you are plugging holes with the spray foam, put in a bit of a used SOS pad before using the foam.

Those metal cans that popcorn comes in this time of year is a good thing to put bags of flour and sugar in. Mice don't chew through metal.

The electronic things did the job where I work. You have to use alot of them and the trick is that they need to be placed where they're not obstructed. In other words, not behind a couch, funiture or file cabinet. The sound waves (or whatever) can't go through solid objects. Leave a few traps for those "super-mice" that aren't effected by the waves.
