If the dog hadn't stopped to poop, he would have caught the rabbit.

This was my fathers saying. He used it every time we said "if" when we explained our behavior. I did not use it with my kids.

If everyone jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge, would you jump too? That was my Mom, used anytime one of us wanted to do something because the other kids were doing it.

I always hated the crying thing. My parents favored it, too, and it was often followed by a smack to the face.

Even as a kid, I knew that was dumb. Of course, I never told my parents because then I would really have had something to cry about!
