We are thinking of moving to this area to retire in a few years. I would love to hear from anybody who lives close about the pros and cons and anything else you want to tell me! We would probably move into one of the 55+ trailer park communities near Huntington Beach State Park, as we will need to live somewhat low-cost and love the state park so much. Thanks so much!!!!!! Oh---also would love to know about the beaches in Myrtle Beach. Not so interested in the carnival atmosphere there, we are beach people. Thanks again! ~teacherbailey

I haven't lived there, but my aunt did for many years and lived in that same trailer park, I believe. Her neighbors were so good to her and watched out for each other. She died at the age of 100 a couple of years ago. Until she went blind in her 90's she walked the beach early every morning with her metal detector and found some really nice jewelry and shark's teeth. She always looked much younger and said it was due to the fresh, clear air and sunshine - and her walks. The seafood restaurant near the park is very good. We visited her quite a bit and she loved it there. I used to think it would be a nice place to retire. We enjoyed the water at Myrtle Beach, but not the crowds that have grown there in the past 20 years. Wintertime is best for us older folk - we have the whole place to ourselves!!

I live about 25 miles away and a friend of mine has a vacation home in Murrells Inlet. She visits from Pittsburgh, PA and absolutely loves the area. She is a fan of Huntington Beach State Park as it is clean and doesn't have as much traffic as the public beaches. I think you will LOVE it here. There is so much to do for retirees, if you want to remain active. And you can avoid the "carnival" if you want to!!!

*** I live in the Upstate of SC and go to the beach
whenever I have the chance. If you are away from
the commercial areas it is nice & Murrel's Inlet is down
from the main Myrtle Beach area.

*** It is really really busy in the summer months.
US17 is the main beach thorough fare (restaurant
row - Pavillion -etc. and where all the summer peole
& teens hang out & to be avoided during those
months.

I live in Charleston SC and know Murrell's Inlet well...Lovely place to visit and probably would be the same to live there...I think you should visit first a few times at different times of the year and then decide if you would like the area. It is a very busy area and it is close to the ocean during hurricane season. It is hot and very humid in the summer. Visit and then make up your mind...

We're moving to the Myrtle Beach/Murrells Inlet area in the spring and are really looking forward to it. Our children and grandchildren are there and have been for quite some time. From what I understand, Accent Sewing and Quilting at the Beach are the only two shops I have been able to find. I'm still looking and also looking forward to quilting people.
