I understand completely about how you feel about your cat. She might as well be your child, and you can't be neutral about it! Hope the medication works and she's her old frisky self again soon!

Oh Leona, I DO hope the treatment will take. I have been where you are many times (the worry about the vet bills and the worry about one critter or another) and it always worked out (even when we had to pay the bills). Take good care of your fur kid. She looks sweet - and I bet she doesn't pee on your bed.

Good luck with your kitty. When my 1 year old had blood in her urine, the vet told me to give her crushed up Glucosamine Condrointin (spelling?) to increase the lining in the bladder, and to give her extra water. So I got a pet drinking fountain, which she loves, and within a couple of weeks she was much much improved. Worth a try!

I certainly sympathize! I cried for two years when I lost my pomeranian Chip. They become your family human or animal. I hope the diet works and you won't have to go throught the surgery with her!
My daughter's lab ate a whole bunch of toys and had to have surgery or she would die from the blockage caused by the toys (toy car toy tree toy doll-dumb dog!!) and it cost them $900 they agonized over it because they couldn't afford it either. The vet worked out a payment plan for them. Vickie (lab) was only 2 and she is a service dog for their autistic son. It was a bad time!! But she is better now and we just have to be watchfull she doesn't eat toys!!

Hope all goes well for you and your beloved cat!!!

It's very rough when our pets need meds or surgery that we can't afford. Have you talked to your vet to see if you could make payments if she needs the surgery?

Aaaww...poor Amber. She is so cute. I hope the diet and drugs break up that mean stone!

One of my boys had a bladder infection and it cost just over £150 for treatment, but luckily it went away. After that scare to my bank balance I went out and got insurance for them both. It costs me £70 a year to insure them, but the peace of mind knowing that I'll only ever have to pay the excess (£50) if they are ever ill or injured again is worth a ton. Peace of mind!

Oh, and to avoid bladder infections now, I feed them mainly wet food topped only with a sprinkling of dry crunchies. I also pour a little water over their food (they love lapping up the water thats over their food but very rarely drink from their bowl of clean water.)

Helpful article here:

Get better soon Amber!

Oh Leona...I know what you are going thru.
My Big Boy had the same thing. He did pass the stones and now eats Science Diet Prescription food. It can only be purchased at vets, and let me tell you, it's pricey, but it's worth it!
Both my cats eat it. Little Girl cat really doesn't need it, but there's no way I can seperate their food, and the vet says it's ok for her to eat too.

I totally understand about the cost. It's insane what they charge, but we do pay it for the love of our pets.
I'll keep good thoughts and prayers going that the stones break and pass with no problem...well, it'll hurt him a little, but other than that, once they are gone and you keep him on the special food, all will be fine. Just don't do what I did. Found UTI food in the grocery store cheaper and thought I would buy that. WRONG! They came back! So, only prescription food for him from now on. He's been eating it for the past 9 years and we've never had another problem.

I TOTALLY understand your distress and concern.

Think about how close we are to our pets as compared to our closeness to - how many other humans?

Oh I really do "get" it about the worry both for your fur baby and for the cost! You'll make it through this...just don't worry. Hopefully the stone will pass with the meds. (and it probably will). I'd be very surprized if the vet wouldn't work out a payment plan with you.

DH and I were talking this morning..I bet we spent over $100 yesterday on cat food, cat litter, cat treats, and dog groomer. Its always something! Last week...another 85 bucks to get yet ANOTHER cat spayed! They are very expensive, but we wouldn't trade all the pleasure we get from them for anything! Afterall....look at that hug Amber is giving you!!
