You need to post a pic - I've never heard of them.

My neighbor was telling me about a little boy who lived in the house I live in now. There are Surprise Lillys on the west side of the house. They called them "Naked Ladies" The little boy, about 5 years old, went to school and drew a picture. The teacher asked him about his picture and he told her they were "Naked Ladies" He got in trouble and was sent home. Duh..teacher, ask for more details.
Anyway, I would never call them "Naked Ladies" around a child.

OK ... it's not a true Lily, latin name is lycoris squamigera which is in the Amaryillis family.

I have just a few plants which are just stating to come up - no blooms yet. Glad someone else refers to them as naked ladies...always get a strange look when I ask about them.

I think you need to let the foliage die back naturally to get blooms. Mine were planted in terrible clay soil and bloomed like crazy.

Mine are blooming here in Missouri, the fragrance is wonderful.
My mother-in-aw always called them surprise lillies.
