Top load and front load each have thier advantages and disadvantages. I have run front load for the last 15 years because I was on a well, and it saved me water.

Bought a front loader from sears their so called top of the line better be paid over 2000 for the washer and dryer. I will never buy another front loader. It is suppose to save water well it does do that. it doesn't put enough water in the wash to get the cloths clean no matter how small the load so I have to do a auto soak and double rinse with each load just to get the cloths clean and the soap out. I wish I would of bought a top load that I could ajust the water.

I have a Maytag Neptune that came with the house I bought last year. I had a Sears top of the line front loader in my old house and I was not to pleased with that either although it seemed better than the Maytag. The next washer I buy will definately be a top loader.

I bought a top of the line GE top loader in January and had to have the motor replaced by April or May. My suggestion is do not buy a GE!!! Appliance store paid for motor and 3 service calls since it was so new. I have heard that about front loaders and the smell. Kind of glad I did not get one now. Before now I had Magtags - think they are made by someone else now.

I had a Magtag washer and dryer for 20+ years before moving to FL. I loved them, only repair was to replace the dryer belt. Did it myself.First house In Fl we purchased a Whirlpool washer and dryer. They were OK.Had no problem with them, but only lived in that house 3 years. Next house came with GE appliances. The worst appliances in the world !! We even upgraded the appliance package. Washer had to be completely torn apart (it leaked all over the place) and after that the computer panel had to be replaced!! The GE side by side refrigerator is a complete piece of junk !! The water dispenser froze up and the front panel is all rusted underneath the dispenser. The touch panel on the stove works when it feels like, you have to keep pushing it until it works. I HATE GE appliances and wouldn't want them again even if someone gave them to me. A friend of mine has a high end front end washer and dryer and wishes she never got them. I wouldn't want them either. Also had a GE refrig up north and the condenser went within the first year.

I had a Maytag top loading for over twenty five years. Finally bought a Samsung front loader and am very pleased. Do you use the 3x soap and a very small amount. You can tell you are using too much if you rewash a load and check to see if there are any suds in the load the second time. It is amazing how little it takes.

I bought Maytag 3000 series front loader about a year and half ago and we love it. It uses so much less water, it is amazing. That was an issue for us. Our DD and two young teen-age DGS live with us so we do lots of laundry! Have not had any problems with smell or mold on the door seal. We have done nothing special to care for it. Have never used the washer cleaner that came with it. Don't have time to pamper appliances. We kept our same Maytag electric dryer that we've had I don't know how long. I think this is the third washing machine we've had the same dryer. The clothes are so much dryer coming out of the front loader that it makes your dryer more efficient, also. Good luck with your decision! There's alot to chose from out there.

DH & I had a Maytag dryer that literally ate a button a day off of our clothes. It was only a few years old, but one day a couple of weeks ago I decided enough was enough. Didn't particularly like my washer either, so I listed both on craigslist and we went shopping! Bought an LG 5.2 cu. ft. Graphite Steel High-Efficiency Top-Load Washer and LG 7.3 cu. ft. Graphite Steel Electric SteamDryer. LOVE LOVE LOVE them! It is actually fun to do laundry. In one load we can complete what we used to do in 2.5 to 3 loads. Everything is clean and we know we're saving water and energy. Many stores have been running the pair on sale recently for $1498-$1500. After all the negative things I've heard about front loaders, I did not want one and am so happy we found this set. We came home and read the reviews AFTER we purchased them and we don't think we'll have any regrets. We did, however, purchase the service plan since this washer uses new technology and we want to be sure we're covered over time. If you don't want a frontloader, definitely give this one a look!
