Post New scam…..

THIS SCAM CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE, AT ANY RETAIL OR WHOLESALE LOCATION!!!

It happened at a Wal-Mart Supercenter a month ago. I bought a bunch of stuff, over $150 & I glanced at my receipt as the cashier was handing me the bags. I saw a cash-back of $40. I told her I didn't request a cash back & to delete it. She said I'd have to take the $40 because she couldn't delete it. I told her to call a supervisor. The Supervisor came & said I'd have to take it! I said NO! Taking the $40 would be a cash advance against my Discover & I wasn't paying interest on the cash advance!!!!! If they couldn't delete it then they would have to delete the whole order. So the supervisor had the cashier delete the whole order & rescan everything!

The second time I looked at the electronic tab before I signed & a cash-back of $20 popped up. At that point I told the cashier & she deleted it. The total came out right. The cashier agreed that the electronic pad must be defective. (yeah, right!) Obviously the cashier knew the electronic pad wasn't defective because she NEVER offered me the $40 at the beginning.

Can you imagine how many people went through before me & at the end of her shift how much money she pocketed?

Just to alert everyone. My coworker went to Milford , DE Wal-Mart last week. She had her items rung up by the cashier. The cashier hurried her along & didn't give her a receipt. She asked the cashier for a receipt & the cashier was annoyed but gave it to her. My coworker didn't look at her receipt until later that night. The receipt showed that she asked for $20 cash back. SHE DID NOT ASK FOR CASH BACK! She called Wal-Mart who investigated but could not see the cashier pocket the money. She then called her niece who works for the bank & her niece told her “This is a new scam.” The cashier will key in that you asked for cash back & then hand it to her friend who is the next person in line.

Please, please, please check your receipts right away when using credit or debit cards!

This is NOT limited to Wal-Mart, although they are the largest retailer so they have the most incidents.

I am adding to this.... My husband and I were in Wal-Mart North Salisbury and paying with a credit card. When my husband went to sign the credit card signer, he just happened to notice there was a $20 cash back added. He told the cashier that he did not ask nor want cash back and she said this machine has been messing up and she canceled it.
We didn't think anything of it until we read this email.
I wonder how many "seniors" have been, or will be, "stung" by this one????

BEFORE LEAVING THE CASHIER'S STATION, CHECK YOUR RECEIPT BEFORE LEAVING THE STAND! I'VE SEEN PEOPLE DO JUST THAT. NOW I'LL START!

PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FRIENDS, KIDS, LOVED ONES..

This is one of the reasons that I have QUIT using my credit cards (don't have a debit card) and have been paying cash for purchases.

I use my debit card like a credit card. I was at Walmart the other day and asked for $20 back (first time I did this) and they wouldn't give it to me because I had used "credit". They said it only works if you use your card as a debit. Wonder if they are changing their policy, or if it's just this store.

This is an urban legend that's been circulating for about 10 years: http://www.snopes.com/fraud/atm/cashback.asp

WOW, thanks for the post. I can't get cash back on my Visa so I guess I am safe. Hope Walmart is tracking these employees and then firing them.

don't you just love people?? thanks. I argued with a man who came to clean my air ducts yesterday for half price of $79.00. he wrote it up for over $600.00 then told me half price would be $349.00. i told him to forget it.

Why would ljptexas post this.....the exact material from Scopes......to the list if it's untrue? Did she know it was not true before she posted it? Not a good service to the rest of us.

I had ordered a light for my kitchen from Home Expo. Ordered the lighting fixture and the installation for $500.00. The installer came over an hour early. I was thrilled because it was going to be done ahead of time, and lots I needed to do that day. Well, the guys come in, unpack the fixture, look at the old one to be removed and walked back & forth made a phone call, then said the store failed to charge me the correct installation rate and it was to cost another $550.00. I was miffed but thought oh well, I need light in my kitchen. Then got my check book and was getting more upset and said I needed to call Home Expo before I give them any money. After all, the original contract was with Home Expo. But surprise, surprise they were not open yet. So I said they would have to come back because I was not going to give them the additional money. The fixture was nice for $500 but not $1000.00. He proceeded to tell me they came down from LA and would not come back today - that was not my concern but the $500.00 difference was upsetting. So they left and when I talked with Home Expo, they said they did make a mistake and it would cost more. So I took it back. When I returned it, the nice young rep was going to charge me 15% for a re-stocking fee. My husband was with me at the time and I asked to talk with the store manager, my husband litteraly stepped back from me (said he was waiting for my head to start spinning) and when the supervisor stepped forward I explained what had happened and said it was obvious the item was not worth $1,000.00 - it was their error, not mine. He said it was odd that a contracted electrician would ask for money because they are paid by corporate, all customers were to pay Home Expo. So he did the full refund.

I later found out they owed the installation for what the original charge was - the contractor was not to collect any funds from the customer. But then who wants a disgruntled electrician working on their house. My BIL who is in the business told me to report them to the State Licensing Board so I did. And as we all know, Home Expo no longer exists.

It is so sad there are so many crooks out there it makes us look sideways at everyone.

Snopes may say the Walmart story is a hoax, but I had it happen to me at our local Walmart several years ago. Luckily I caught it. My cousin also had it happen at the same Walmart. There is some truth to it.

I have found that snopes is not always correct
