Default New Year's show of "ball drop"

We were watching the show on t.v. last night to see the "ball" drop on New Year's Eve. Just saw a "Toshiba" ad sign and clock... no ball drop. What's up with that?

Later we watched Chicago raise up a lit star and were impressed by their new tradition.

Anyone one else notice the difference in the Times Square tradition?

We live in New York, on Long Island, we saw the ball drop. so sorry you missed it on your tv. I guess not everyone got a good photo close up of it. I'm bored of seeing it drop all the time. I've never been to Times Square, but my sister was.
She said they locked you in the bars at 11pm and wouldn't let you out till 12:30. Once you were in the doors locked at 11 pm. If you're out on the street and have to 'go', it's tuff tushie on you. So sorry you missed it.

They still do the ball drop, but that Toshiba ad really gets in the way. http://timessquareball.net/

Thank's for the real story. We were so disappointed; thought it was all just hype this year. Honestly, it just looked like a huge ad campaign for Toshiba, and underneath that was a clock saying it was 2016. Glad to hear the real deal still happens.

Thank's, we rewatched that part of it several times before we saw it. So overkill on the part of the Toshiba sign and that clock. Oh, well.

It's all about the money. Toshiba bought that ad spot. Everyone that watched, knows the name Toshiba. Next year it will be a name that has more money then Toshiba.

I heard that in different parts of the country, they have different things they drop. NYC used to have a big apple drop.
