Hey all,

I know this isn't Quilting related, but I know that many of us do other crafts besides quilting and wanted to know if anyone had an answer for me.

I was going make quite a few "no sew fleece blankets" for my cousins for Christmas this year, and JoAnn's has some great sales going on right now.

The question is: how much fleece comes in those no sew fleece blanket kits or how much fleece would I need for the front and the back to make one?

They have 2 different sizes in those no-sew kits they have a 72" size then a smaller one.
They come with the front and back piece.
I just made a blanket for my aunt for Christmas and I made mine from scratch not the kit and I got 2yards for the top and 2 yards for the back. I wish I had done a 2.5 - 3yards for the top and same for the back to make it a bit bigger then it turned out, oh well she is shorter then I, I am 5' 10" and to make a nice big one for me would be about 3 yards on top & 3 yards for the back...

Jamie, I just made three of them for my three grandchildren. I did not use the kits but purchased my own fleece. Did not use any batting, just slit the ends and made the fringe. I believe the kits come 60 X72 inches. One of my grandsons is 14 yrs old so I decided to make his a little longer than the 72 inches. Made it 2 1/2 yds. long. This will allow him to use it a little longer. About three years ago I made all three of them fleece blankets and everytime they visited me they had them with them. I couldn't believe how well they held up. I did make sure to get the anti-pill fleece, really makes a difference. Hope this helps.

I've seen them where the two pieces are just stitched together about 5 inches in all around the edge and then a fringe is cut but not tied. Looks kind of nice that way, too.

When you buy your own fleece, you can choose just exactly what you like, which is kind of fun!

I use 2 yds each side for an avg adult, 3 yds for a man, 1 yd for a child. I cut a 6 inch square from each corner, and then cut my slits abt 2 inchs apart. all the way around. Bring the bottom piece up and around the top piece and tie it, do this 3 times to each slit. I have never used a kit. Hope this helps

I have made quite a few of them and have looked at the kits. I feel for the money and quality you can do better getting your own material. The first one I made for me was about 2 yards and I didn't really like it. Just wasn't long enough. So I made me another using about 2.5 to 3 yards. So much better. I am around 5'7" tall so it really depends on ow tall the person is.

I have seen a few sites on Pinterest where you weave the strips on the end instead of knotting them. Have not tried that yet.

just finished 2 quilts. Each for a GD. I used 2 yds. front and back. Easy and quick.

I have made a few tied but now sew them instead. I like the finished look better and it doesn't take away from the size of the blanket. I usually use 1.5 yards for 0-6 year olds, 2 for 6-adult(if they are small) and 2.5 for other adults. I found if you use 1 yard and split the WOF it makes a good size for a baby blanket for the carseat or stroller.
