I only read your post not all the other replies...normally I read everything before replying..for this I have experience. 11 years ago my Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had metitasized to her bone. I learned at the moment you need to take someone with you to the Doctors office. They don't mean to be condescending they just are. They minimize what you say and don't really hear you anyway. A list is good but an extra pair person there is better! Good luck...but hey there are tons of Doctors out there...find one you like!

I agree with Murphy...Doctor's are providing a service, you are the consumer. If you didn't like the way the mechanic repaired your car, you would find a new one right???? Your well being should be you first concern.

I'm trying out my third doctor and it looks (so far) that this one is THE ONE! He listens, he suggests and he schedules necessary tests ...... most importantly he explains things that I ask about. He also doesn't over-book and is never in a rush and yet I don't have to wait more than 5 minutes for him to make his appearance. Sounds like a "dream", doesn't he? One more thing - he calls me after hours to inquire if a med is working and seems genuinely concerned and calls with lab results!

After years of frustration, I put my training as a special ed teacher to use. When I go in to the doctor, I have a printed agenda of briefly stated issues AND GIVE IT TO HIM. I have found much better response this way. Many people who do well academically are, oddly enough, actually among the learning disabled, and take in info better by reading than hearing, my doc is obviously among them. This man is very competant, so I don't want to drive 70 miles to someone else.

I'd be looking for another dr.
My newest dr is my SIL's partner and when I told her I didn't want to take a cholestrol med before trying to correct it with diet she agreed. I hope she treats all her patients special, but I'm beginning to think I'm getting special treatment bc I am her partners MIL. Can be a good thing, don't you think.

It`s not easy to change Drs. 1st. baby was born while Dr. was asleep in hospital..nurses were talking about their weekend and said I was a crier. ( He retired.) 2nd, was told I had hours yet..Dr. didn`t make it, 3rd I wanted to stay home with a pint of pain killer...no Dr. wasn`t called in time. (Changed Drs.) 4th delivered by Dr. he was there for some one else. 5th one we couldn`t even find a nurse, call button didn`t work, nearly had her in labor room, no Dr.Changed Drs. Stopped having kids. Was miss judged with 2 Times walking pnemoina and 1 had dr come to house because the hospital was full with the flu. One Dr. had no respect for me, when I told him a person called and told me I had cancer,from a dr. he sent me to, his answer was "Aren`t you glad you don`t?" and wouldn`t even check it out.Changed Drs) Didn`t go to Drs for a few years and when I thought I had heart trouble, looked for a new one. He had a back ground of heart studies. He said nothing is wrong. Said I could go on a cruise I had planned. Almost died. Was so ill, I had to leave my grandsons wedding. I finely went back to him. He I had 7 relatives that had heart trouble 5 that died. Waited a few more months and finaly could not sweep a floor or walk more than a few feet. A new heart Dr. called me one day and said he looked of my chart and wanted to see me. All I needed was a stent for a week aorta. Came home the next day. Now I go once a year for a check up and find cures for the rest at home, I thank GOD every day that I feel good and can do my work. It`s not easy to change Drs.

I have mostly been lucky w/ the Drs. I have had in the past. Yesterday I really found my prize. I had to report in for results of a cholesterol check. My regular Dr. was not available so I saw a relatively young new Dr. He actually looked at my file (some don't), and when finding out that I take no meds (I'm 85), he said that he didn't believe in filling up the system with drugs if problems could be solved naturally. A man after my heart. I could have kissed him. LOL. I do believe he is going to be my new Dr.
