Well, yesterday my SIL spent a couple of hours trying to help me with my iPod with no success. When my computer crashed a while back, it got rid of everything, including my iPod library. Now when I go to sync it, there's a message that lets me know that if I continue, it will erase everything from my iPod. So this morning, since iPod is an Apple product, I'll be going to the Apple doctor and see what he says. It might just be cheaper to buy a new iPod but I'm not sure what the computer will tell me if I try to register another one. Remind me of my frustrations with computer technology.

You don't have to get a new one, there is nothing wrong with your iPod.

I don't use iPod, but my daughter has for years, she says that you can get a free download program which will move your items from your iPod to your Computer. The program is called "senuti" which is iTunes spelled backwards!

Anyway, she says that it works like iTunes, but in Reverse, so you can move files from the iPod to your computer. Once you do that, and your files are safely on your computer, when you go to Sync your iPod, it will zero it out, but you will have the files on the computer and then can restore them to your iPod.

That senuti sounds like a great thing to know about. My understanding of how the IPod works is that everytime you sync it, it basically erases everything on there and reloads it from your itunes on your computer. Therefore, if you have nothing on itune on the computer, you have nothing to reload and your ipod would be aloverly blank. :cry:

I would make sure that your music gets reloaded on the computer before you sync it again. We had all 400 of our cd's on a hard drive and it went cuput! My DH had to reload all of them again. He wasn't a happy camper. Good luck!

That's what scares me - I was also told that if I sync it right now, it would wiped my iPod clean of anything I had on it. What ticks me off is that I still have $50 left from a gift card and don't want to lose the $$ either that's in my iTunes account. I'll wait until my SIL can help again and have him download that software and see what happens. Thanks so much so your help.

Itunes keeps your account, not your computer. All the items you have purchased for download from Itunes are stored at Itunes. I get that warning all the time until my daughter clicked somewhere to not show it again!

My daughter had a computer crash a while back and lost her whole music library--and she's a musician, so we're talking a LOT of music! She called Apple (or iTunes?) and explained the situation, and they found a way to restore most of her music. It's worth a try! Now she has it all backed up on disk!

The best thing is to have online storage. There are many sites that do this and many let you have 2gb free. Carbonite is a really nice one. If your computer crashes everything on it is stored and easy to download right back on a new or fixed computer. It's a great piece of mine if you have lots of paid for downloads, important files, and especially all your pictures. Not having back up online storage will be a big regret. Disc stoage is okay but many formatted discs will not download again to another computer, I found this out the hard way.
