I recently retired from the National Atmospheric & Oceanic Administration - NOAA. When I complained to my DIL that I wasn't enjoying being 'old,' my DGD (then age 5) whispered to her mother that she knew why I was so old. I had worked for Noah!

my 6yo grandson stood peeking through the binds of my dining room window, he said Mimi, you don't use these windows very much do you? I thought he meant open them and said No, not really, he turned away and said that's what I thought, they're full of spider webs! guess what I did the next day!!

When we visited up north on our first anniversary, Dh and I decided to take his mother and our 2 DGDs out to dinner. Just wanting to spend time with the 3 of them. Everyone else was at work. We had the best time. It was also a way to acquaint the girls and his mother. We ended up taking his mother to his sister's house to babysit her other grands. We informed the girls that she was their step great-grandmother. They looked at us and each other and said "No way! She's still walking! No one is that old and looking that good and still walking!" Their other great grandmother had been in a wheel chair for years and passed away at 70. DH's mother is going to be 80.

I keep a book for each of the 3 grands of their funny quotes. One favorite that comes to mind happened when we took our whole family to Hawaii three years ago. The oldest was 3 at the time. I usually wear jeans and a tshirt everyday. The first day in Hawaii I wore a Hawaiian dress with spaghetti straps. The grandson says, "why are you wearing that dress with all this, all those showing?" as he pointed to my upper chest. My DSIL laughed and said "That's one for the book!"

When I was yet iny 20's, the 8th-graders in my class wanted to know whether I knew Abraham Lincoln. It was 1962.
And five years ago I substituted for a year in the Texas history classroom of a teacher who died before school started. The students often told me that history was easier for me because I had lived through most of it. froggyintexas

When I was student teaching (over 30 years ago) the kids asked me if I lived in Elvis Presley's day! I said " What do you means Elvis Presley's DAY! I'm only 4 years older than you!" Haha! Kids have no concept of age!

While getting our three year old DGD ready for a visit to Sea World my DD kept telling her all she would see. She told her several things about the killer whales. When my DH ask her what she was going to do at Sea World she said I am going to kill whales. DD said well I guess we had better have another talk.
